Rape is unwanted and or forced sexual activity.  The insertion of any device against the will of a woman is rape. Laws making it a required part of a medical exam or procedure removes the criminal liability from the practitioner  if the woman requests the exam or procedure.  It does not make it “NOT  rape”, just  removes the criminality.

Rape is a sexual based act.To define a medical professional inserting an ultrasound device into a woman as a sexually based act is ridiculous in the extreme, and shows how far out into lala land some people are willing to take an argument.

WHERE are those voices?

They're here. We're here. Notice that that Florida law was not passed with that ultrasound passage in it.

Male notions of what rape is or is not, or the lack or not of male voices coming to the defense of female autonomy, the fact of the matter is most women in the predicament of having to watch ultrasound videos of the fetus, go through a "waiting period" to give others a chance to get her to change her mind, or be lied to about a supposed risk for cancer -- the women in that predicament are, for the most part, those who DON'T have a male partner that actually cares about them.  That's one reason they are seeking a termination of pregnancy and not a house in the suburbs with a nursery to decorate.   It's easy to forget whom we're talking about when we make the male perspective the one to consider.

The fact that pro choice folks are worried about people wanting abortions having to see an ultrasound first speaks volumes. What exactly is to be feared? That the patient might well come to understand that they are going to terminate an actual life and not merely some unwanted appendage growing within the mother?

Not exactly. More often, rape is a crime about control that uses sex to assert control (either over the victim or the criminal). Control-reassurance and control-excitation rapists are both using sex to either reassert their control or become excited by controlling others respectively. Likewise, gang rape is a crime that's about group-bonding through brutality, the criminals reassuring one another that they're the same and can be trusted. The perps for whom rape is purely a matter of sex are actually quite rare and almost always mentally unstable in some way. The typical offender is using the act of sex to satisfy some other psychological need.

Why should anyone have to see an ultrasound? Maybe they don't want to. As an abortion can be performed perfectly well without one, it's completely unnecessary.

In any event, your definition does not apply to medical professionals performing a medical test prior to a medical procedure.

You attempt to avoid my question with one of your own.Again, what is to be feared by seeing an ultrasound prior to the abortion?Does anyone fear seeing the tumor that is going to be removed in a cancer surgery? The faulty valve that needs replaced in a heart surgery?

What you and those like you fear is a person completely understanding the consequences of their actions. Why?

I'm not going to answer your stupid question. The ultrasound is an unnecessary procedure, and we all have the right to refuse unnecessary procedures. Indeed, we all have the right to refuse necessary procedures if we don't want them.

Nonsense. Everybody understands the consequences of an abortion. You're having a kid. You don't want one. You croak it. What's so hard to understand about that?
