Sometimes people really give you hope, when you had lost it.

A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side. Aristotle

Agree with everything everyone has said :-)  Even maine's comment about the rather bizarre nature of the gifting.  It seems bizarre to me only because it's so unusual and is not an isolated incident.  But bizarre is good Cool

And, really, more conventional types of charitable giving - or charitable gifts to municipally-run organizations (like homeless shelters, city/county food banks, etc.) - tend to require a paper trail and concomitant loss of anonymity.  Or so it seems to me, anyway.  Although I will say that some of these layaway bills run into real money:  One angel's gift highlighted on one of my local news stations was reportedly to the tune of $700 - for one customer alone (a grandmother who'd purchased basic clothing items, school supplies, and toys for her grandchildren; don't know whether the grandmother is sole caregiver, and don't know whether the angel knew or knew of the grandmother).

Knock and the door shall open.  It's not my fault if you don't like the decor.
