Since Solfeggio initially posted here news of Happy Feet's rescue and later release to find his way home, I thought I'd share this update with everyone.
m.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/sep/13/h... I expect others will join me in hoping that his tracking transmitter simply fell off and eventually scientists will get a signal from his transponder chip indicating that he's still alive. Mr. Miskelly does have point that it's time to release Happy Feet back into the anonymity from which he appeared onto that New Zealand beach. Aren't we foolishly sentimental at times? Even so, that we are is part and parcel of caring and helping. |

You're as cruel as my husband who said the same thing, Charikleia.
But I laughed nevertheless, so I guess we're...ummm...birds of a feather? < sly smile > |

Dot--hi. I don't think it's "foolishly sentimental" to care about a being whom one has rescued and cared for. I see it as some of the best of human behavior. BTW--I think they also said that the transmitter would have a limited life--a month or less--so there are lots of possiblities re technical glitches.'

Some of us care about the rest of the planet--you know--the non-human parts.

I have a special affection for pinguins. They always bring a smile to my face when I see them. I certainly don't wish them any harm. |

Ariel--hi. I didn't think you would wish to harm any animal. I think we might not agree on what constitutes news though. |

Slow news days are not such a bad thing since the stories reported are typically humorous or upbeat ones. Therefore, I say, "Let there be slow news days." Where Happy Feet is concerned, I apply the old adage, "No news is good news." So there... :-P |

There's hope: www.stuff.co.nz/environment/5617020/Hope... The consensus seems to be that the transmitter just fell off. Evidently, superglue didn't do the job. |
