The feds have stolen another 30 million dollars from taxpayers in Chicago and shored up the Democrat vote. Since we have no media I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what test it is that whites can pass but blacks cannot? None of the stories I found covering the decision were rash enough to include that information.

I wouldn't worry much about it. The "judge" was just talking out of his racist white a$$. It's fools like him that give the rest of us a bad name.

I am not worried. I don't live in Chicago so I don't have to worry about being rescued from a fire by those too dumb to pass the firefighters exam. Or those too weak (since a female is now filing suit over the strength requirements). I just want to know what questions specifically. I don't look for the state media to publish them but maybe somebody knows.

Maybe I should be worried because the federal government eventually oozes it's way everywhere. For instance in Delaware : "The Justice Department’s complaint, filed in federal district court in the Eastern District of Virginia, alleges that the city of Chesapeake violated Title VII by using a mathematics test as a pass/fail screening device in its selection process for entry-level police officers.."Link

So maybe it is math that the federal government believes blacks can't do?

The Dayton Ohio Police Department found a way to satisfy the feds by simply lowering the required score...to 58%...in order to gain more black police officers. And North Miami dropped it's requirement that police officers be able to swim (even though North Miami includes hundreds of miles of canals, waterways and seashore) .But I don't think either is the case here.

I agree with you that the judge is racist but I don't know if he was black or white...or male or female.

It seems that you are. What I read were just come common whines about honest people trying to make things fair. Many people get real upset when the advantage is taken away from their group and things are made equal. They don't like equal.

Help me, my mind is a little boggled by this story.  OK so the city is forced to pay 30 million (Holy Cow!) to hire 111 african american fire fighters BECAUSE in years past too few african american fire fighters passed the exam to make the eligible to enter the FF academy?

Is that correct?

If that is true than it is typicall messed up Chicago.  I think the right response might be to take a prep class into some of the community colleges/or high schools to help interested African Americans pass what is evidentaly a rigerous test.

My understanding is the test is quite hard, even here where I live it is a very challenging test- alot of people of all races don't pass.

I don't know why the test needs to be so hard?  Maybe it is because of the parametic responsibilities?

I can see the city needing to attract and hire more african americans but this solution is rather racist and insulting to african americans.

Perhaps they could have the test translated into Ebonic.

Agreed

I don't think special exceptions should be made for a person's race or gender.  The testing sounds objective to me.  Even with the example of the woman - I think it's great if a woman wants to be a firefighter, but I would hope she'd be strong enough to carry me out of a burning building.  There are reasons for those tests.

Our need to learn should always outweigh our need to be right

How quickly your tune changed...from " The "judge" was just talking out of his racist white a$$. It's fools like him that give the rest of us a bad name" to the above serf-like yassir-boss comments. Wonder what brought about the change?

Essentially correct. I am not sure I believe their excuses for doing this though. Blacks who didn't pass the test were the Occasion..not the cause..of this action in my opinion. The Federal government uses many different tactics to destroy local decision making and this is just one of them. It does not like competition. The bosses in DC have their own fire Department you see. And their kids go to private schools. They live in gated communities with guards. So they don't feel affected when they destroy schools or local government services.

I believe the test is so hard for a very simple economic reason...the jobs are highly sought after and as a result the employer can be very selective. My brother is a firefighter in a city of about 200,000 and his pay and benefits are great. But he spent years honing his skills starting as a volunteer firefighter just out of high school, paying for his own schools, graduating from college and studying everything from paramedic training to industrial fires and hazardous chemical spills. He even spent four years in the military along the way and fought fires at Ft Lewis in Washington. It was a year long process when he was hired and he was one of 20 chosen from several thousand during the process. His city wanted the best for a job this sensitive and they got it.

Chicago no longer has that option...if they ever did.
