Anyone read "The Hole In Our Gospel"? It's a compelling, moving book written by World Vision President, Richard Stearns, who asks why so many of today's Evangelical Christians are largely AWOL in addressing extreme global poverty and poverty related disease. Currently over 26,000 children die every day of mostly preventable, poverty related causes like hunger and preventable/treatable diseases. Most of the deaths of these 10 million children who die needlessly every year could be prevented if the world chose to make addressing this crises a priority.
An Evangelical Christian himself, Stearns addresses the issue of why the EvangelicalChurch has been as apathetic as the world in making this crises a priority. Non-faith based NGOs have actually lead the way in addressing the extreme poverty and disease that are the root causes these needless deaths. Stearns then identifies how the church can make a real difference in saving the lives of the “least of these”.
