Well, the titration went well. I actually slept well, yeah! It was not as bad as my buddy made it seem. The machine was not noisy at all. It sounded just like my air conditioning vent. The mask was comfortable too. I'm a little agorophobic and I feel very comfortable in tight spaces. I guess that helps out. I used one of the nose pillow ones. I hope to hear something back soon about getting a CPAP. This is going to cost a small fortune, I can tell. The first sleep study is going to cost me over $1,000.00. I got the bill last week. Oh well, if I can rejoin the land of the living by using CPAP I guess it will be worth it.

On a really bright note, today is my official 3 month anniversary. I became a smoke free individual the morning of August 9, 2007. Thank you Jesus for giving me the strength to do this and for giving the scientists the knowledge to come up with the drug that helped out so much. Amen.

TS, congrats on quitting smoking. That a big plus in the breathing department.

I hope Medkit coming along OK. It's a long recovery, but very worth it in the long run. My mom is finally healed up from her breast surgery and heading into her hip replacement. We're in for a busy time. I'm stil doing fine. 18 months cancer free.

I love seeing all the pictures of everyone. What a great new feature!
TS, congrats on quitting smoking. That a big plus in the breathing department.
Thanks. I have noticed a difference already and I have smoked for over twenty years. I really think I can stay quit this time. I have a great motivation. I realize now that I really enjoy breathing. Sometimes I sit and savor each breath.

Not this time. I had a big party at one year, and I'll do it again at two. I'll go nuts when I hit five! That's the magic number.

Anybody do anything fun for Thanksgiving? I gained 3#! We went to the mountains and ate a lard-based diet for 4 days. Did some hiking and horseback riding too. The kids saw a bear on one of their rides. The weather was great.  We figured out the nearest phone up there is 2 miles away and the nearest gas station is 30 miles away. We are talking backwoods! The wind kicked up Thursday night and you could feel it blowing in through the logs of the cabin. We kept getting up and putting logs on the fire. The rest of the time it was quite warm. Scary warm, really. The leaves were still on the trees and in full color. That's unusual. By now the trees are usually bare. Fall has been too warm and too dry. The colors changed very late. But it was pretty!

Wishing everyone a happy Holiday of Choice. Hannukka is just over, and Yule is upon us. Christmas is soon to follow. I don't know the dates if Dewali, but I know it's a mid-winter celebration of light and shadow. Ramadan was earlier this year. I love all this spiritual diversity. What a beautiful rich tapistry it is!

We're planning a holiday with family followed by a brief trip away for a few days before getting the Wee One back to school. What's everyone else doing?

My family is blessed with recovering health. Mine continues to be good, and my mom is improving. By Christmas I'll be 21 months cancer free. Mom's docs don't expect her to have any further cancer problems in her lifetime. At 89, what more can she ask? She's scheduled for a hip replacement on New Year's Eve, so after some rehab she'll be more mobile. New booby, new hip. There'll be no stopping her!

I have smoked for 27 years. I LOVE It. In September of this year, I started buying loose tobaccos and stuffing my own cigarettes. I have so many tobaccos now, I don't even know how many I have, covering everything from halfzwares (Jesus would smoke Bali Shag if he actually existed!) , menthols, flavoreds, 100% Turkish (used for blending), Canadian brightleaf, etc. At Xmas, I will be getting an American blend light, which is a Marlboro copy, a Perique, which I have never tried, a British bright leaf blend, and a wintergreen to mix into my menthols, oh and more Turkish. I smoke ultralight as my daily smoke, but don't even have a clue how many different ultralights I presently have on hand. Leaving premades and blending/stuffing my own, has been like walking into a completely different world. Although I have been smoking for 27 years, I don't feel as if I really began smoking until this past September when I began with the loose tobaccos. And at 87 cents a pack, who can turn it down?

Having had cancer once, I'm committed to healthy living. I try not to preach. Individual life choices are what they are. I'm not quite a vegetarian, and, for a colon cancer survivor, that would be a good thing. One step at a time. I spend half my week helping people quit smoking, but I never push if they aren't willing. Smoking is the single greatest cause of preventable illness and death in the US and will be worldwide by the end of the 21st century. Still many people enjoy it and continue to choose to do it. My job is to offer my services as a health educator to all hospital patients who are smokers if they are interested in quitting. If they aren't, I tell them it's been nice chatting with them, and it usually has been, and I'm on my way.

I'm happy for you that you have survived cancer, and that you are trying to live a healthier life.  We really do go through life one step at a time, beginning with awareness and progressing to positive changes.

You mention that you are not quite a vegetarian, which indicates that you are trying, and this is good to hear, too.  If you would look at the animal rights advocates board here, you will find people discussing vegetarian/vegan diet and lifestyle which might be helpful for you.  If you are up front about what you're trying to accomplish, you'll get many good suggestions.

In any case, good luck to you in future.

The veggie diet thing may be dificult for me. I need a lot of protein and can't eat nuts. (beans can be problematic too LOL)  I get mixed reviews on soy health-wise. My doc, who is very open to managing health problems with diet, is pro-soy, but other survivors advise against it, probably because of the phytoestrogen thing and the breast cancer risk in some colon cancer survivors.  I do some low fat, lactose free dairy, but I'll probably never completely get away from fish. I love my Onmega 3's. I've heard that flaxseed oil may not be good for some men. It has some bad effect on the prostate. Fish oil is a better source. If my husband is doing fish oil, I might as well, too. The lactose free dairy is digestable, but the higher simple suger content isn't good. Since I don't have as much colon as I used to, and what I have left is tempermental, I have to watch what I eat for lots of reasons. My husband never eats red meat, but he's a big poultry person. I have to cook poultry for him, so I eat it sometimes too. We try to use free range/organic whenever we can.

Wow, that post was really confusing!
