Sticky: Welcome To All --- An "Introduce Yourself" Thread

Hi you all.  I am here because my thread was moved from the Discuss Jehovah's Witnesses section to here.  As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I am not interested in debates.  However, if someone want to engage in a friendly discussion - feel free to post on my thread here.

BTW - I did want my thread moved here - I had no choice.

From our literature concerning debates on forums:

"Many people will debate for hours, week after week, but not because they are seeking truth. They just want to undermine another’s faith while flaunting their own supposed education in Hebrew, Greek, or evolutionary science. When encountering them, some Witnesses have felt challenged and have wound up having extended association centered on false religious belief, philosophy, or scientific error. It is noteworthy that Jesus did not let that happen to him, though he could have won debates with religious leaders who were schooled in Hebrew or Greek. When challenged, Jesus replied briefly and then turned his attention again to humble ones, the real sheep.—Matthew 22:41-46; 1 Corinthians 1:23–2:2.

10 Modern computers have opened other avenues to bad association. Some commercial firms enable subscribers using a computer and a telephone to send a message to electronic bulletin boards; a person can thus post on the bulletin board a message that is open to all subscribers. This has led to so-called electronic debates on religious matters. A Christian might be drawn into such debates and may spend many hours with an apostate thinker who may have been disfellowshipped from the congregation. The direction at 2 John 9-11 underscores Paul’s fatherly counsel about avoiding bad associations." - "The Watchtower," 8/1/93, pp. 16,17

BTW - Jehovah's Witnesses believe abortion is murder.

Try going to the Discuss Jehovah's Witnesses section.  I post there often and love researching questions.

Forgive me for not formally introducing myself before posting.

I am a 48 year old husband, father, lifelong PL and recent convert to Orthodox Christianity. I am a firm believer in challenging your own convictions. To exercise that belief, I read more PC lit and less PL lit, not to look for flaws or points of contention but to understand where the PC is coming from. I hope that PC's will reciprocate and practice that same exercise.

I voted for Obama knowing full well that I would passionately disagree with his stance, but with full confidence that he would work to alleviate the circumstances that lead to that very difficult choice in the 1st place. Something where the conservative mouthpieces did precious little.

I think this model is absolutely necessary for us and future generations to follow:

Thank you,

Hello Evry 1! My name is Mystikal Wolf.( Eddie.),I have 5 children,a beautiful wife of 3 yrs,I am Wiccan,From Oklahoma, was raised Baptist/Pentecost. I have been through Divorce,Suicide,& the general hard times we all face in this economy,& uncertainty,as well as the degradation of our Earth. I am a peaceful, non assuming individual, who only seeks to better my life,as well as help others with thiers,no matter their circumstance, race Religion,or complexity. My main attempt here on Belief Net is to gain friends, learn,& share myself. In short,I,& Most of us in the Pagan Community are very good, honorable Humans. Contrary to some beliefs,we aren't evil, harmful beings who seek to destroy what is created, for this...satan person.  The original Lucifer,is mostly avoided,or ,banished from us if It is Faced, but we do believe in an ultimate Evil Deity. I & most Pagans seek to better the world,& beyond. So I just wanted to say, belief Net is a very helpdful, enlightening idea,& I am happy to be part of it,as well as part of this section!! =)).Brightest Blessings,& may your path be full of Light,Love,& Blessings...Your Friend,MW!

Hi Instant Karma,

I am a couple of days late here, but still want to welcome you to Beliefnet and our Abortion Debate Board.  This board can always use some more *moderate* types that seem to be able to see both sides of this issue - and you appear to be that type.  Hope you hang around, but also hope you check out some other forums of this amazing web-site. If you have any questions, I will be happy to find you some answers - leave another post here, and I promise I will check back in a more timely manner.
I'm a 55 year old single Roman Catholic woman and member of the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO) who lives in Maine. I class myself as a moderate Catholic, I'm fairly conservative on most things but willing to seek a venue to talk. When I chose to participate in National Blog Posting Month for November I decided I'd like to have a journal to reflect on my spiritual side. I just joined Belief.net because I couldn't find hardly anyone active with interests such as Catholicism or SFO on Live and Insane Journals where I have my more secular Science Fiction activities.

I'm a bit concerned because I'm finding the environment here a little difficult to navigate with regard to profiles, groups, feeds, subscriptions, etc. I don't really understand  the difference between these things nor those between the areas with the dark blue background and those with the white background, but it seems there's some separation there. Most concerning I can't seem to get the parts of my profile that I want open only to friends to do that. I did send some emails concerning some issues but haven't gotten any answered yet.
Hi Louise,

Welcome to Beliefnet and the Abortion Debate Board. This site can be a bit daunting at first visit.  Have you checked out the New Members Forum?  You can access it at the bottom of this page where the *find another forum* menu is.  If you scroll to the very top of the various forums and click on the New Members Forum, it will get you there.  Good luck - this is an amazing web site.  I think you will enjoy yourself here.

Good luck,

That all depends on what the subject of your questions pertain to.

If it involves the Bnet itself, then this is not the thread nor the board for those type of questions.
If it's about the ROCs, then you can send an email to the Bnet Staff.
In fact at the link below, there is a whole host (no pun intended) of subjects.

Beliefnet - Contact Us
http://www.beliefnet.com/about/contact.asp

the other rules thread is closed?

That thread was originally intended to be an "Informative" thread when the new
Bnet Community Forums were up & running and members had Q&As about the technical
changes with the new design of the website.
It was also an "Advising" thread to remind members that the same "Local Board Guidelines"
apply to the new forums as they did on the old boards.

And that's also the reason why these "Info" threads are "Sticky" threads to always stay on
the top of the Board for everyone to easily find these threads instead of them having to be
"bumped up" like they did on the old Boards which on some boards could take pages to
find a particular "Community Building" Thread.

Hope that helps.
