Since we must have a press intro I chose this because all three of my middle-aged kids are GEOGIA TECH grads, but I love college football and welcome all comments on fave teams, conferences and the $$$ grab of tv.

I love football too, but tend to gravitate more to the pros. Growing up my dad used to help out the Tulsa Hurricanes, so I got to go to their games for free. Not a Big 12 team, but hey, it was fun.

My husband preferred pro ball, too. I like both. |

I am a fan of youth sports myself. After sitting through all the games of my children and a few of my nieces and nephews and assorted close friends I don't have any energy left over for pro or college level games. Although I think I could get into college sports because the players have more of a story behind them. The team changes dramaticaly every year because some players graduate and new ones join - it seems more dynamic and even chaotic than pro sports which for me would add to the appeal. |

This is hardly a 'hot' topic by any stretch of the imagination. |

For lots of people in the US, football is a permanent hot topic. For those who don't like sports, what can I say, except that all of us have got to suffer occasionally, as I do with threads about people like Lindsay Lohan. At any rate, to topic: The main thing wrong with college football (Div I anyway) is the absurd fantasy that it is an amateur sport. What it is, actually, is the minor league training ground for ther pros. Why not be honest and pay the guys? After all, if you are in college training to be an engineer, you can go out and get a job as an engineering intern and get paid; for that matter, you can get a job in an engineering lab on campus, and get paid by the college. So why not pay these guys for playing football? Even the Olympics gave up this "amateur" facade years ago.

Templar and y'all Interesting idea. In not a few colleges football scholarships and perhps basketball scholarships are more generous than other sports scholarships. I know this was true at GT, which my son attended on a xcountry and track scholarship. Football does create $$$. Many of us, I think, have been watching the conference mixing and matching this year and the tv scheduling involved. I watch games on tv but tend to tune out some of the chit-chat so I'm sure others will know more. (I really should talk to my 15 y-o grandson, a UGA fanatic even though his mom graduated from GT. He also is involved in a local pro evaluation pool with adults and his analyses often are the best. He has severe floppy cerebral palsy and posts as Cripple-Kid : nothing wrong with his sense of humor or analytic ability !! He'll probably go to GT.) J. |
