In 1953, I was a first grader at Louisa May Alcott Elementary School in Joplin, Mo.  I was probably the youngest kid in the class, and was a restless, high-energy kid always.  To keep me in my place, the old, experience "best first grade teacher in the school," more than once tied me to my desk.  Even my parent's questions about the action met with no more than shrugs from the teacher or the principal.

Can you imagine what would happen today if a teacher did something like that? (Other than in one of these private "Christian" schools)

And, no, I don't think it was "better" back then, or that tying a child to furniture is appropriate--now or then.

Tied to a desk? Eek. My 8th grade year we moved to Oklahoma and they still spanked children who "acted up." My mother made it very clear that any teacher who laid a hand on me would have her and my father to deal with. 8th grade is too old to spank someone.

Well we might not tie boys to desks anymore but we still act like a boy who has trouble sitting at his desk all day is a major problem .  I don't think that is very good for the boys

Having been there myself.... my 4th grade teacher found a way to "tie me down." She gave me 6th grade reading assignments. That was in addition to all the regular assignments. A good teacher doesn't have to resort to tying kids to chairs.

Hooray for Phil and Hooray for Tiger.  Phil is Victorious in continuing to advance with his career and Tiger is Victorious in having the courage to face the public and to begin to resurrect his golfing career.  I have my dislikes about both but I also can be happy for them both.  Congratulations for what they both achieved.Laughing

I really don't know about this corpus collosum or why it would be more active in females or males or what that has to do with evolution...

Nothing. There just be some here that hate men. Women are not "more evolved" than men. That's such an absurd claim there is no rational reply for it. You know.... it's like someone telling you that turtles are mammals. You know there's no arguing with the person so you just shake your head and move on.

The corpus collosum is the connection between the two halves in the brain. There is no conclusive proof that it is larger in women than in men. If it were, that in no way implies that women are "more evolved" than men. It would be just another of the many differences between the male and female of our species. There is no "different" evolution for men and women. It just doesn't work that way.

Oh yes, there is.  There are many differences between male brains and female brains.  Females have more neural activity between the two sides of the brain than men do.  That is why women often complalin that men don't communicate.  The reason women have this knack is so that they can better teach language skills to infants.  Plus, being physically weaker than males may have meant that they had to rely on social networks more to survive than men so they needed that adaptation.

Yes, the brains of women did continute to evolve after men's stopped.  That is not hatred because the male brain is not inferior.  The male brain is remarkable for being able to build and the spatial skills are often quite spectacular.  But.  The brains are different.

Males do  have different sex drives because of their brains and that part of the brain is the more primitive part of the brain.
