Surely someone has a position on this.

When it backfires, the common defense is to come together and say nothing. This allows ample time to search for something that defies the topic.

So sit in your circles and wonder, "To whom do we ultimately blame for this?". Maybe it takes 2 of these to make an official statement. Hate Crime is being considered.

Didn't mean to stump the band.  :)

My thought is, there are idealouges, or people who consider ideas to be more important that human beings, of all sorts.

At its core, it's the same thing -- ideology. Holding on to some ideas or ideals so tightly, they become, in one's mind, more important that other human beings. Therefore, any means can justify the ends, so to speak. This can take many forms. Resorting to calling others names, or hanging labels on people, or attacking their character. Or, in extreme cases such as this, attacking the people themselves.

Homosexulity/gay activism/gay marriage is a very emotional subject -- or bundle of subjects, such as it is.

There will be those who get swept up in all the emotion, and for whom, their point of view will become more important than the humanity, the right to express a different opinion -- or even the bodily safety -- of those they see as being on the "wrong" side of the issue.

We don't know yet why this person did what he did.  Whatever the reason, he was wrong to do so.  I have already seen several condemnations of his bad deeds by various "liberal" sources.  Here's one such:  http://freethoughtblogs.com/dispatches/2012/08/15/family-research-center-attacked-in-dc/

I see that you have already made up your mind why he did what he did - it's Rahm Emanuel's fault.  People less blinded by ideology should wait until more facts come to light before coming to an opinion over who to blame.

Well... when you preach hatred you have to expect some of it to come back. You reap what you sow.

People want to feel superior by demonizing another group.  It is about their own feelings of inadequacy and patheticness.

I am fine with Chick Fila, I don't endorse or approve of the president's POV on the subject but I can live with it and carry on without turning into a ball of rage.

It was all fine and good when the Clintons and Obama said they could not support same sex marriage because it went against their morality.  But for a commited christian to do the same is intolerable.

Whatever

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center:

The Family Research Council (FRC) bills itself as “the leading voice for the family in our nation’s halls of power,” but its real specialty is defaming gays and lesbians. The FRC often makes false claims about the LGBT community based on discredited research and junk science. The intention is to denigrate LGBT people in its battles against same-sex marriage, hate crimes laws, anti-bullying programs and the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.

The SPLC is one of the two groups I donate money to. They list the FRC as a hate group. There is more to the article at the link above.

CBS News is reporting that the shooter volunteered with an LGBT group.

I can easily see a prosecutor trying to push for a "hate crimes" charge now just to prove a point.

Please cite a direct reference to any statement by the FRC endorsing the shooting of gays.
