((RE)); you are funny! "When is the happy occasion ...?" Which one? We just moved in together, with all our stuff................ including children and cat. First happy occassion was finding my socks, and her finding hers and my sons finding the bathroom. Then the signing of the civil union bill happened and she announced to her niece in Malaysia that we would marry before asking me, I just happened to be in the room and over heard the news! This will be in effect Jan 2012. after ther world ends again. :) Later I asked if it could be more romantic, she said, "don't hold your breath! This is about rights, our committment is sealed. Now our family will be protected under law that is it, what is for dinner?" She is soooo romantic. :) Actually she planned our honeymoon already. :D. It requires a passport and a month, possibly 2. And I am guessing I have to pack my own t.p. 'cuz it is not going to be in this country. This is more home fires, but what the heck, I finally get to be legally recognized in court, hospital and everything else and I can't express what this really means to me as I am in happy tears. I am darn near 50! I am experiencing this while alive and my kids will get real benifits, that no one can dispute. Some do not understand, when my first partner died, we had wills, planned everything, her family disputed and won and I lost 14 years of everything. All because I was not legally "next of kin". 15 years later... This is not happening again! I am now more the next of kin. No date set yet, no need. Dar

(((Dar))) I'm so happy for you! I can't wait to hear when you set a date! Will you have the boys walk you down the aisle? :)
I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard was not what I meant...

Congratulations, Dar! That's thrilling!
The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,
While hammers fell like ringing bells In places deep, where dark things sleep, In hollow halls beneath the fells. For ancient king and elvish lord There many a gloaming golden hoard They shaped and wrought, and light they caught To hide in gems on hilt of sword. - J.R.R. Tolkien |

Yavanna; Yep it is thrilling, don't quite know how to wrap my head around this tho. RE; My boys will stand by our sides, no aisle. Private. Legal commitment only, our love commitment requires no law, not pomp... . But the honeymoon thing... is that on top of everything else? I thought we did that about 500 times... it gets better??? I better buff up for this one 'cuz keeping up with this 60 year old is wow! I have been notified my passport best be ready by summer. '12. oh. dear. I think Italy ... but I may be redirected to the far east. All I know is my boys will be with their dad. :) and it will be summer and 5'oclock somewhere...:) Me thinks I am getting married. I am the romantic one. I might request a flower. |

dar- for years i have popped in and out of this forum and followed your 'homefires' thread ( commenting every once in a blue moon) and am so happy for you. here in ny the marriage equality bill was finally passed and i couldn't be more thrilled ! but for you, having gone thru such a terrible time 15 years ago, YOU KNOW first hand the importance of the protection these bills bring to lgbt couples. your life is a dream i can only hope and pray to live someday. god bless you all ! peace, m22

m22 Thank you! I am living what appears to be a dream. Reality is: I am also a mom of 2 teen boys, that officially makes me crazy. The gay marriage domestic whatever one wishes to call it involves adoption, wills, major mediation, 2 lawyers, an accountent, a therapist, 2 life coaches, 3 bank accounts, a major commitment to communication often involving the f word not in a good way . And the still wonder of a saint. Never mind we bought a home and must learn to live together . And the very fine tuned fact that me and my mate are women. I almost fainted when I read the domestic partnership document. I think hetero folk call this a prenup? Anyway, ((m22)) I am flat out nuts. And loving every minute except when the cat poops on the bed and my boys talk back and my dear partner tells me something officially dumb. Like, " don't throw out anything important" while I was dismissing a tissue. :) Dar

heh!... i know all about nuts.... have a 19 & a 17 yr. old.... which makes me... well, nuts and old beyond my years ! my but they do suck the life out of you, don't they? while i hope to find someone to share the rest of my life with, having been married b4, i don't believe i would ever do it again- however i DO believe that everyone has the same basic human right to choose whether or not to marry. hopefully the federal government will realize this sooner than later~ hang in there with all the fine print ! m22
