A study done at Cinncinati Children's Hospital Medical Center shows that American girls are starting puberty earlier and earlier these days.  Another study, at Emory University, of girls in the UK, links early puberty with obesity.

One of the major problems associated with maturing too early is that just because a girl looks like she is fifteen or sixteen, it doesn't necessarily mean that she is psychologically or socially more mature.

More than 10 years ago now, I volunteered at Tampa General Hospital as what was known as a. "Snuggle Volunteer". We were permitted to take care of newborns, so as to assist the nurses who were quite occupied in those nurseries otherwise. We snuggled, fed and changed the babies.

Three years before I arrived, I was told the youngest mom ever admitted to deliver her first full term live birth, was 9 years of age! She kept the baby and continued with her education. Her mother babysat while the girl was in school, and then when she arrived home she had to do all of her homework and then take care of the baby herself. She delivered her second live birth when she was 11!

That was over 10 years ago. It's no surprise young women today are becoming sexually active as early as all that, now. With the amount of growth hormone and steroids, that are fed to factory farmed animals, it's no surprise the human animal is developing at a faster rate. Milk, does a body good if we're talking about Calves! Not children.

I developed early although I wasn't obese at all(a full C-cup by the age of 10) and I agree that it puts girls in situations that they're just not prepared to handle. The fact that I was "developed" meant that older guys hit on me and also meant that I was in some dangerous situations. Unfortunately, my actual age and level of maturity meant that I didn't realize what the heck was going on and didn't know how to handle it. It also meant that I was the girl picked on by other girls who hadn't reached that stage yet. I don't know what we can do about stopping the trend other than education and some sort of emotional support for girls.

Can steroid homones in meat affect the age of puberty for girls?

envirocancer.cornell.edu/Factsheet/Diet/...

According to the above site, there have never been any really exhaustive studies done to determine if this is true.  But, given the steady rise in meat-eating in America, and the concurrent subsequent rise in obesity, it seems as if such a study is long overdue.

I am thinking the same thing about the milk/chemical connection.

Oh for the days when milk in glass bottles was delivered to the door stoop, and it had cream on top. Surprised

Now it looks like eating animals could also impact the children's growth.

Physically ready, maybe. The age at which girls start puberty has been dropping for years. Psychologically/emotionally ready, no sir.

Still have that here. Fresh milk from the farm a few miles down the road, in glass bottles on your doorstep with cream at the top (if you drink full-fat anyway, I drink semi (1%)).

I do not think measuring breasts is the best way of measuring puberty.  Overweight men have breasts, so I believe an overweight child could also produce breasts without being in puberty.  I had my first cycle at age ten.  I didn't have a clue what was happening to my body, although my mom had had "the talk".

Cool. Does not happen in Texas as far as I know.  Maybe in some rural areas, but not in the cities. I remember milk deliveries as a child, but not as a teenager.
