Thanks CL, I needed that today! I've been on a journey to nowhere... If my faith isn't leading me inward, then my faith is leading me astray. |

Lest I be accusesd of NEVER acknowledging when you post terrific stuff, let me congratulate you here and now for this post. NO sarcasm. No irony. Just undiluted praise.
Perhaps you could, with this post, disavow Girl"Christian" of her silly notions about "The Pink Swastika".
Again, thank you.
And now, to address your finnal point:
The problem is the evangelical "Christian" conservative Republican "right" WANT people to think it IS relevant to DADT. You know, 'queers = Hitler/Nazis'. Same old same old as 'queers = beastialists/child reapists/necrophiliacs'. They WANT people to think of those things when they think of God's gay and lesbian children. (That's why I call them lieing hate-mongers.) They're simply trying to scare people with this lieing bullsh!t so that they can continnue unjust, unfair, un-American discrimination. |

So one guy repeats what a historian and a researcher said and that means "the evangelical christian conservative republican right want people think it is relevant to DADT"? Me thinks someone only knows how to use huge generalizations to make their point. Whether Hitler is a homosexual or surrounded himself with homosexuals has nothing to do with DADT and whether or not it should be repealed.

Likewise, the arguements that the poor little straight soldiers would be vicitmized by the big bad gay soldiers that (according to the FRC) would not be able to control themselves and apparently there would be rampant sex every night after the straight soldiers fall asleep....holds no water. And, the story that 19k "gay" military personnel have HIV and would infect the our whole military.....is baseless. As has been stated on other threads and in other posts....the fear mongering continues. Why do the AFA, FRC, some Christian denoms/churches, et al seem to think that the military, marriage, society all are their exclusive property? Gays/lesbians are tax-paying Americans also.
Peace!

I attended a CME lecture presented by a child psychiatrist and he made the point that a lot of gay teens do commit suicide for this very reason.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard was not what I meant...

Reading comprehension 101 for you, GC. That "guy" is "Top social conservative Bryan Fischer (the head of a Christian conservative group the American Family Association). That means he REPRESENTS "the evangelical Christian conservative republican 'right'". He said it on a radio broadcast in response to the Congressional vote on DADT. He DOES want people to make that association which is why he made that association. Hardly a "huge generalization. And it's by no means only "one guy" on the far, radical "right" "religious" nutwing fringe coming up with kooky scare tactics that are DIRECTLY "relevant to DADT" (well, actually, they aren't, but these desperate religiosos shure are trying to make it look that way) ... "Far Religious Right Group, Headed by Cliff Kincaid, Says if DADT Repealed "Gay Blood" Will Taint Military" (Link: blackpoliticalthought.blogspot.com/2010/... ) Cliff Kinkaid of American’s Survival, Inc produced a ten minute video claiming that “Disease tainted gay blood harms our troops.” His recent column is entitled “Save Our Soldiers from Gay Death.” Lost on Mr. Kincaid is the fact that all would-be soldiers must undergo mandatory HIV screening and are not allowed to serve if the results show they are positive. (Which means that he - an avowed "Christian" - is either ignorant or lieing (aka bearing false witness, aka a "sin"). Or both. He WANTS people to think of gays as "disease[d]" and as "tainted" - it's WHY he uses those words. Get it yet?
And I haven't even got to the lies of the Fambly "Research" Council's (that JohnQ references above) about gay soldiers = rapists. See how they make those (not-so) subtle 'connections/associations yet, GC? Frankly, I think they do about as much "research" as you did when you quoted from "The Pink Swastika" - hey, maybe YOU want us to make those associations with gays and Nazis too. Naaaw, couldn't possibly be, eh?)

I would say some very far right, very fundamentalist Christians want people to make a connection between gays and Nazis. (Noting, of course that it's highly ironic for anybody on the political far right to bring up Hitler and the Nazis.) As far as mainstream Republicans, I'm not sure they buy into this crap. I think a lot of them are just opposing the move to end DADT out of a sense of obligation. Because they figure it's the "conservative" thing to do. Or, because they just have to be contrary to Obama, no matter what. All of which is stupid. They themselves probably know that DADT needs to go. |

And to think they did it all in high heels.....!this whole fantasy that all the Brown Shirts were gay is ridiculous and unprovable. It's ironic that Hitler was supposed to be a homosexual and that his niece committed suicide because they had an incestuous relationship. At least the story about his favorite niece was making the rounds during the war so it at least happened while Hitler was alive. Let's see, he was supposed to have only one testicle. As Kissinger put it at a time when he had gorgeous women failing all over him "Power is an sphrodesiac'. Directly after WWII was officially over, it was amazing how few "nazis" or even veterans seemed to be. My history teacher in HS had been a foreign exchange student living with a family in Berlin. His foster father claimed he was the only officer who admitted actually being one after the war ended. If you wanted to be promoted, you joined the Nazi Party. (As a long-time Mel Brooks fan, his line "Don't be stupid, be a scmartie, come und join the Nazi party" is running through my head.) On the other hand, if Hitler was gay, Brooks changing his name to Adolph Elizabeth Hitler may have been correct. How long could anyone who was an "ex" lover of Hitler's expect to live when you could be sent to the Russian Front? Someone needed money and got it. Even Eisenhower's driver during WWII had a reason for not including any ..."intimate encounters" and it wasn't her delicacy. She was dying from cancer and her family needed the money. I've read the book more than once and there is a lot of suggestion involved but not much substance. There was even a picture of Mamie reading it in bed with chocolates and laughing at it. I don't doubt that were gays in the Brown Shirts or that young boys were molested.but Hitler would have been frothing at the mouth to think his elie force was homosexual... it would have clashed with the pure Aryan ideals he was pushing.

A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side. Aristotle
