I think it probably would have made the news anyway, just on the grounds of who his (her? I always get pronouns confused) parents are.

Being a man is somehow "Better" than being a woman?

Interesting point of view.

About as out of date as one could possibly get.

This is classic WG straw-man. I never said any such thing. I have tried to explain this hundreds of times but lets just say its not a complement.

The daughter of Sonny and Cher who was formerly known as "Chasitity" has publicly declared that she is in the process of becoming a man and that he wishes to be known henceforth as "Chaz."

Is this right?

Should people who are undergoing sex changes be so public about it?

Is there any reason that we "have to know" this is happening?

There is nothing wrong with it.  He has done nothing wrong.  I hope Chaz finds peace.  It must be terrible to feel you are in the wrong body.

Why should people undergoing sex changes be silent and hide it?  Is it any more shameful than divorce?  At least the person undergoing the sex change had no choice to start with...

"We" aren't obsessing on it and bothered by the publicity... YOU are.

No, MEN have far more problems having sex with a woman who is transgendered than women do.  So, HE stands less chance of being dumped or having the hell beat out of him by some "he-man" or having jokes made about him than a man who switches to female.

Speaking of out of date... YOU are the one whining because this is public.  That's even farther out of date than the comment you're TRYING to turn into a fight.

The medical term for the operation is:

This is a sad and peverse story, and for all her seeking of happiness being "made" a man, she will find happiness as elusive as a "man" as she has as a woman.  This will not "solve" her internal conflicts, only complicate them all the more......

I support a person's right to do this. But, if Chaz isn't "announcing" this for the sake transgender rights and awareness, then, unfortunately, I believe its mere personal PR (i.e. narcissism). But what I think doesn't necessarily reflect the ultimate truth of this, or any, situation. I don't know what I don't know.

Really wealthy people in general, and celebrities in particular, can produce some REALLY screwed up offspring.

And that has .... what... to do with this topic, CL?   Because she didn't feel she was a woman, and sought to change it, and she is a celebrity's child, she is "screwed up"?

Do you believe that all people who undergo the transgender process are "screwed up"?

Or is it just celebrities and their kids you are sojudgmental of?

Being transgendered has nothing to do with being screwed up.  That Chastity is screwed up is simply an added complication for her transgendered life.

You are not saying she's a nice, level-headed GLBT person, are you?

Unlike you, I wouldn't venture to guess on her mental state.  You see, it takes personal knowledge.

I DO know that there are tons of counseling and psychiatric screenings done before this type of surgery is done.  So, maybe she's not as "screwed up" as those jealous of stars and their kids would love to believe.
