Yay, Iowa!! The legislature has already said they don't intend to do anything this session. Recent polls indicate that over half of Iowans are either in favor of same sex marriage or civil unions.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard was not what I meant...

Here's the link for the court decision in pdf format: http://www.queerty.com/wp/docs/2009/04/07-1499.pdf I think this is a giant step in the right direction for the equal rights of all people, and I congratulate the Iowa Supreme Court on its enlightened decision.
"When it shall be said in any country in the world, my poor are happy; neither ignorance nor distress is to be found among them; my jails are empty of prisoners, my streets of beggars; the aged are not in want, the taxes are not oppressive; the rational world is my friend, because I am a friend of its happiness: When these things can be said, then may the country boast its constitution and its government." -- Thomas Paine: The Rights Of Man (1791)

No surpise here. I've thought all along that: A: The gay marriage issue will ultimately be decided in the courts. B: Bans on or exclusions of gay marriage wouldn't stand up in court. |

With much embarrassment, I congratulate the state of Iowa! I must say, I would have never expect a mid-west state to legalize marriage equality ahead of NY, NJ, VT, NH, CA, OR, and WA. I mean no disrespect. To put this in perspective, I am originally from IL. Though, I did note that US Rep Steve King (from Iowa) said: "Our worse fears have been realized," If that is his worst fear.....he must not be keeping up with current news such as the state of our national economy....our continued presence in Iraq and Afghanistan, etc.
Peace!
------ Christian LIES wed Christian HATE......Begot a child....it’s named Prop 8! Supreme Court let it stand.....which means we can vote away the rights of others in our land. Sad as that may be...it hurts all of us.....not just me. |
