Alas, when it comes to choosing between the teachings of Jesus and the teachings of the pope, too many people pick the pope over Jesus.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard was not what I meant...

Hello, Lovely People!

Well, I must say that this thread has been very, very, VERY enlightening to me.

I always wondered why, as a kid, my best friend's Catholic parents were always looking askance at me.  My two brothers and I had all been taught to address adults as "Mr./Mrs LastName" or "Sir/Ma'am" and always to say "Please" and "Thank you", so adults who were strangers were always charmed by our respectfulness...  but my best friend's Catholic parents never did seem to approve of me, even though I behaved well in their home.

Now I understand.

I was raised by my mother and my aunt.  My mother is tall and fair and blond -- my mother's younger sister is shorter, dark-skinned, with black hair..  and it never would have occurred to me to explain to adults who never asked that yes, my "aunt" really WAS my aunt!

Love and blessings to all of you,

Claudia
