Even on Amazon, the Samsung 40 inch LCD 1080p, 120 hz is $1500 at Sams Club.

What I am thinking now is to buy a Vizio 22 inch for $238.  It is 1080p and LCD.  Put it in my bedroom. Try to get the dang converter box to work with the Sony in the living room and just see how much I use it.  I can always buy the $1000  later.  A thousand bucks for NBC may just be asking too much.  Last night's lineup just about sealed it for me.  LOL

lol. network sucks. the 32" was around $500. it's a nice size. definitely more picture than my old 20" tube tv.

a $1000 seems like too much for a t.v. to me. i was considering $500 for a 40" reconditioned one before 1/2 b.f. did us the sugar daddy.

I am stil indecisive.  The only tv station that I can be sure I will get will be NBC.  I don't know that I will get anyting else and if that will be of any value.  From the last few years, NBC has been so awful that I may just save my money and go dark when the conversion takes place.  From what I have seen, NBC is getting worse.  Cable is just not an option.  I cannot see paying that much money for tv.  I would rather spend it on books. With my new Kindle, that may be what I will do.

Then there are the tornadoes.  Yes, I have a weather radio and when electricity goes out, that is all I have but until the electricity goes out the local coverage of weather on tv is extremely valuable and better.  It covers road closings and government shutdowns better than a weather radio.

I wish I could make up my mind.

I don't have high speed internet at home that performs well enough to do movies, etc.  I have Verizon USB and that just doesn't cut it.

no it never ends. i guess it was a good thing i didn't bother to replace my video tapes with DVDs. i've gone on to computer movie files already... altho, i'm feeling depressed that i didn't go ahead and purchase the HD versions of my t.v. shows from iTunes this season. i went with the ordinary format. argh!

They don't even carry the new plasmas here.  You have to buy them online.  They are phasing the old ones out here and those are cheap.  I guess it could end up like beta and vhs with beta being better but vhs winning anyway.  That may happen with LCD and plasma. the old plasmas were not as good but the new ones last 100,000 hours and have a better picture than all but the most expensive LCDs (in the 3000 range).

One thing I am kind of excited about is that I am getting an antenna for my new tv and I may actually get another channel. LOL  Without having to pay for Satellite or cable.  I am hoping for a good clear CBS channel.  I don't think ABC is in range.

I also did my budget and it appears I have more money I can reasonably spend than I thought.

However, I don't know if I want to get a blu ray dvd and a stand for the  tv with the extra money.

i am going to get an antenna too. i'll lose my last cable channel (discovery), if it works... but i'm out for comcast.

i'm surprised the plasmas cost so much where you are. they're totally being phased out here. they're all on sale to clear the stock. LED is what's coming in. 40% less power usage than LCD. tremendous depth in the picture.
