One of the sweetest and cutest kids I know is a 2 year old girl. A week ago I was in Subway having dinner, andd ran into her, her older sister and their dad. I thought it was cute when I heard her speak. I love hearing kids that young speak (which, to a large extent they kinda barely do). It makes me soooooooooooooooooo upset to think of anyone being abused in anyway shape or form, let alone one barely old enough to verbally communicate. And to whoever mentioned Erikson, I remember learning about his stages of development. Might not have been in Psych '101' though. JFG

Don't ever let a child be mistreated in your presence. I'm not suggesting you micromanage another parent's job. I'm just saying, if someone crosses a line like this, step over it yourself and stop it in its tracks - even if you have to beat the beater till he pisses blood.

Thank you sweet lady, (((Stardove))))

How could any sane person believe it is in any way proper to beat, not spank but BEAT, a two year old? I'm not a violent person, but seeing that.... well....
Here's the story.
I'm glad they got the mother too. She should lose custody and the guy, he's in no way a man, should be in prison until the girl turns 21.
This is about the 4th story I've heard about some guy trying to "toughen up" a small child. Where do these idiots get such an idea?

Bullsh**!!
You're not going to "toughen" a kid up by beating them, you're just going to traumatize them.
This guy has no business around children.
But ... but ... they're heterosexual, so that MAKES them 'qualified' to be parents. Per American law.
Bravo Do_unto.

fwiw, most abusers were themselves abused. There is evidence that antisocial personality disorder is a combination of genes and early abuse and neglect. If you took Psych 101 you probably learned about Erikson's stages and how if the infant does not meet the trust vs mistrust stage of development, everything else becomes a problem. I remember a father being interviewed in an abuse case. He said that one time his dad was going to whip hm 100 times with a belt. Although grandpa stopped with only 75, dad thought it was "a little excessive." Once visiting Alcatraz I picked up a book written by a prisoner. He started it by saying he had a normal childhood and then went on to describe alcoholic abusive parents. While it is easy to demonize these people, they are often pretty demon-ridden already. I wish we taxpayers were more willing to work on prevention and mental health treatment but, alas, that requires money and we would apparently rather bewail wrongs than do something about them.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard was not what I meant...

True Evil=abusing the helpless and the innocent.
It is hard for me to wrap my head around anyone who would harm a child in any way or a mother who would allow her child/children to be hurt by anyone.
As a child I was never beaten and only remember one spanking in my entire life.
I certainly never beat any of my four children. I did keep a rubber band on my wrist and stretching it would do the trick. The adult kids still talk about my rubber band "trick".
You must have been a really nice Mum.
I think I am still very much a child. I remember being helpless and at the mercy of adults. I have this desire to defend the helpless. The only thing that makes me angry is harming the innocent and helpless. No one should ever hit anyone, especially those who have no ability to defend themselves.
