The most difficult thing for me about keeping the cats inside the house is having to let Hershey out. Hershey tries not to step on a cat as I have insisted that she learn and the cats use this to their advantage to slip out. Magellan especially excels at this. He walks under Hershey's belly and Hershey trying her best to not step on him does a fantastic job of tripping ME.
I am outnumbered. |
MsCG,
I am working on your pictures. Unfortunately, I have dial up at home and that just did not work. I could not download them to my computer. I don't have time at work but will work on them during my lunch hour. At least try. For some reason, even with our high speed internet, your pictures are slow to download.
sorry about that, I can't believe that my cheap 1.83251 pixel camera makes it so complicated. I appreciate your offer to try, but don't blow your lunch hour :(
The most difficult thing for me about keeping the cats inside the house is having to let Hershey out. Miss Kitty is also an opportunist, and if they're both by the door to go out, she knows there's a chance - if it's down to one or the other, he's the one that I have to grab. My solution the last few days has been to greet her when I come in (and can block her path with my purse), give her her medicine, and close her in the office. She's distracted making yukky faces long enough for me to close the office door and get Zeus out & back in without the dance. But I doubt even Hershey the Wonder Dog could round up your whole crew in one room :D What's the joke about herding cats? |

Oh, I don't mind working on the pictures. That is my idea of fun.
Hershey can herd cats but when we are going outisde, her mind is on getting herself out. You can't grab Magellan because he is completely dwarfed by Hershey (he really does know how to do this well. He can walk with perfect synchrony.). My pets have so many "skills" that benefit them, you would thinki, at least one of them, could make me a cup of coffee in the morning. |

I agree about the coffee. It would be mutually beneficial.
I sometimes load the coffeemaker the night before, so all that needs to be done is to turn it on. But when I stagger out in the morning, nobody has flipped the switch for me. Yet they both know where I'm going when I stand up and say "I need coffee." Cruel. Cruel, I tell you. |

I just read about Miss Kitty. I'm so glad that she's doing better!!!! You must have been frantic for a while. My cat, Simba stays indoors. It's kind of weird because when e had our airstream trailer he never tried to get out. Now with our new trailer he acts like he wants to go outside. Did you know you can get a big screen tunnel that lets you put your cat outside & they are safe from anything?? If you go to the site of drsfostersmith.com you will be able to see it. I've thought about getting one if I ever have some extra money. My daughter lets her cats go outside & they do not have claws on their front paws. I don't think that is right because they have no way to protect themselves. They usually stay by the house but that doesn't mean some stray dog or cat won't come over here. Simba has his claws & the one time I let him out I had a harness on him & he was hooked to a long leash. He just wanted to set on the porch. If he wants to go out he is going to have to learn to walk on a leash because that is the only way he will be allowed outside. We take him & the dog,Missy, for rides in the car but that's it. When e first got Simba he used to sit in the dogs seat that we have in the back seat of our car but now he huddles down on the floor. I don't know why he is afraid all of a sudden. As I said we take both of them for car rides so they don't think they are going to the vet every time they get put in the car. Missy loves the car!! If the door is open & she gets in we have to force her to get out of it if we aren't going anywhere. Again I'm so gald Miss Kitty is doing so much better. Keep us up on her progress.

I don't know what happened to the old postings on the pet forum but most of you know about Spooky. Well just to let you know we are suppose to meet the guy form the shelter at noon tomorrow. He is going to dart him so we can take him to his new home with Polly. She has about 12 to 14 acres of land for him to roam on. There are also lots of places he can hide if he wants to or get out of the rain. Polly took care of him before we did so he knows her & her dogs. He whined for 3 days when she moved out of the campground. It is killing us but we know he wouldn't be happy where we live because he would have to be in a pen or chained up. That's just not a fair thing to do to a dog who has always had his freedom. I know I will be sobbing when we leave him but I also know that he will be happy there. Please say a few prayers to give us strength to do what needs to be done. It's also going to be hard to see him being darted. We know he is ging to run & we are going to have to keep him in sight until the meds take effect & he lays down & goes to sleep. Then we will put him in our car & take him to Pollys. The only thing about it is that it will be the first time we will be able to pet him while he is asleep!! I plan on sitting in the back seat with him with his head on my lap. Well anyway I just thought I would give you an update. This guy made an appointment once before & never showed up so we are praying that won't happen tomorrow. Spooky needs to get out of the closed down campground & around people again. He may not like to be touched but he still likes to be around people. Will let you know if all goes well tomorrow. MAW

Thanks, MAW!
Yes, I had a that rock in the pit of my stomach feeling for about 24 hours. But she did start improving, nearly from the very first dose of medicine. I have seen the screen enclosures you mentioned in F & S catalogs - that's a good idea! Devona, I think you must have hit it on the head re: bacterial infection. After nearly a week on the antibiotic now, she is eating and drinking normally, her energy level is back up, she's herself again! I will have to watch her after she finishes the medicine, I suppose - does one round usually take care of it? MAW, I think your original thread may have moved onto the next page. You can find the previous pages on the main Pets screen, before you go into a thread. The first page you see when you go onto a forum topic is always the most recent activity. You can start new threads too, or bump an older one up to the front by adding a new post to it - whatever floats your boat :) As for Spooky, I dearly hope that this is "the day," and pray that all goes well. I will be thinking of you! CG |

Well everyone things with Spooky did not go like they were suppose to. The guy from the animal shelter was on his way to the campground & we were on the way to the campground. We called Polly to tell her we would be bringing Spooky to her in about an hour or two. She told Bruce that she was going out of town for a month so she couldn't take him now & told Bruce to find someone else to take him. So there we were with the animal shelter there & Us there. We had no choice but to go ahead & have him get Spooky. They had to end up using the dart gun on him & as soon as he was asleep they put him in our car & we brought him home. I sat in the back seat with him & for the 1st time in 4yrs. I was able to pet him.!! Even when he woke up I was still able to pet him. We stopped by my vets & they came out & took blood for a heartworm test. Unfortunally the test came back positive. It is a mild case though & the vet said to wait 6months to a year & then bring him in for treatment. The treatment cost $325. I don't have that kind of money. I don't know how we will get someone to adopt him knowing they are going to have to spend
$325 in 6 months. In the mean time we have him chained up in a large pen. I have gone out everyday & I am able to pet him!!! When I first start petting him he gets a look like he wants to bite me but as soon a I pet him for a little bit he calms down. I can still tell he is real nervous about me petting him but at least he lets me do it. What I do is I step on the lease so he can't run away & slowly go up to him & pet him. Today I got him to lick at a ice cube in my hand!! As soon as I stop petting him & take my foot off his lease he immediately goes away from me. I still think I am making progress with him. I'm just going to continue to keep doing what I've been doing a few times a day & see how it goes. I may try to go to the news to try to get help paying for his shots, neutering him & maybe even the heartworm treatment. It's the only thing I can think of to do. Well thats it on Spooky. If anyone has anymore ideas I'm open to them. MAW |
