Hi Cult!
The best way to lose pounds is diet and exercise. Exercise alone won't do much to reduce your weight.
Successful weight loss is 75% diet and 25% exercise. So, if you don’t know what constitutes a proper weight loss eating regimen, consult a registered dietitian. Or ask your personal physician to refer you to a specialist. Or, check out http://www.mypyramid.gov to get an idea of a proper eating plan.
For exercise: set up a cardio and weightlifting regimen that you can do each day for about 1 hour. Sit ups don’t reduce your gut; cardio will. Can you walk for 60 minutes each day, or ride a stationary bike or swim or play basketball or tennis? Weightlifting will help you keep your muscles while you diet.
IF workouts are boring to you, then you need to add variety to them. Can you watch tv/movie while you ride a stationary bike? OR go for a walk in a mall or outside on a nature trail? Or listen to music while you work out? Is there a physical activity that you do like? Try to tailor your work outs to include things you enjoy. Sometimes having a partner to work out with can make a boring time enjoyable. You can challenge each other to do more.
Bottom line: To lose weight you must burn more calories than you take in. No way around that.
I can give you more specifics if you want- just ask.
Irene.

Improve your wealth, education & status.
a class co-factor consistently appears across many studies. Comparing net worth with BMI scores, a 2004 study found obese American subjects approximately half as wealthy as thin ones. When income differentials were factored out, the inequity persisted—thin subjects were inheriting more wealth than fat ones. A higher rate of a lower level of education and tendencies to rely on cheaper fast foods is seen as a reason why these results are so dissimilar. Another study finds women who married into higher status are predictably thinner than women who married into lower status.
~ Wikipedia~

Well, I've heard that to lose fat, one must perform 60 to 90 minutes of cardio on most days of the week.

You can lose fat by increasing your basal metabolic rate. In other words, your metabolism has to speed up from what it was. In the beginning, this is easy, going from nothing to something. With a faster rate, more calories are burned. Follow that instead of something that you think you can't do. This will mean taking the stairs instead of the elevator, etc.

I suggest that you need instruction. I recommend you join a gym. There an instructor can assess your fitness and create a programme for you.
To strengthen torso musculature whilst burning fat, I recommend you visit a heated indoor pool and start swimming!
The need you have is not trivial. And fixing it is not cosmetic!
