We have one computer with "Latest Headlines" that goes straight to the BBCNews where you can get a global and different assessment of what is happening in the world. One of them made me furious, so I put it on Hot Topics...but since I find myself in a combination anger/depression blend, here it is:

The BPand Halliburton companies knew that the concrete used to make the caps in case of a spill was substandard and they used it anyway. This concrete only held in 1 out of 4 tests but they used it for off-shore rigs just the same. I think of sending that kind of crap to the Gulf of Mexico, where hurricanes gain speed and power---but they still used crap for a cap. All that devastation--avoidable-but they still took that chance. You don't play with Mother Nature, who is still trying to get rid of the human infestations every chance she gets. Right now I'll settle for having everyone who knew and allowed it to happen to be sent to clean up after themselves. With their tongues if possible. Never mind that...can't poison  existing wildlife.

I'm less surprised about Halliburton. That's the company Cheney was head of in the US before he couldn't find any viable vice-presidential candidate but himself. After accepting that job, all of his earning from Halliburton were placed in a blind account he couldn't access as long as he worked for the country. Yet somehow this company kept getting government bids over and over despite billing the government for meals it never delivered to our servicemen and women. I couldn't believe they got away with that or ever got another government contract again. In a desert area especially, our troops need every ounce they get and the number they skipped was over 6,000.

They should have been black-listed for that. I think they eventuall "repaid" the government for the missing bills--and then promptly got a new contract.

There is no excuse for what they did.

I appreciate that you posted that, Karbie.  The whole oil rig situation in the Gulf was heartbreaking, and like you, I find it unforgiveable.  So many lives, both human and wild, were affected so badly.  Hopefully, nothing of that magnitude will ever happen again.  We can't control the storms and hurricanes, but seems as tho we should be able to control human actions...such as BP, and also Halliburton.  What a shame!!

Today is the day that the Lord hath made; we shall rejoice and be glad in it.
