Hello:

It is not my intention to be perverse but if, as you say on your Profile, your gender or sex is unknown, then, how do you determine that the person you are with is from the opposite sex?

We have nothing to fear except our lack of understanding of fear itself.

"Unknown" is not an indication that a user does not know his/her gender "Unknown" is simply the default setting when a user chooses not to specify his/her gender,

Stephen, that comes off as a very bad joke: ill-timed and insensitive.

Perhaps you should clarify your intent in saying this.

I did not enter it as a joke.  If you say that you do not know what your gender is, how can you say that someone else is of the opposite sex?  Now, perhaps you will answer this question for me.  Why did you decide that I was making some kind of a joke?  Tell me why you think my comments are ill-timed and insensitive.

Wouldn't it be better to allow the person to simply say that, --- instead of introducing a default setting that confuses the issue?

I'm not going to highjack this thread to explain. You're welcome to email me privately if you'd like to know more.

What is there to highjack?  It's okay for you to critique me without crossing over into a highjacked situation (at least in your mind), but if I ask you to explain yourself, you decide that i am trying to highjack the thread?

Just recently beliefnet.com was sold again.  Probably because they couldn't generate enough money from the commercials that appear on this site.  The more private emails that are sent, the less revenue there will be for beliefnet.com.

The default setting only comes into play
when a person chooses not to answer ...
the choice of whether to answer is left entirely up to the user.

This entire post is off-topic and as such is in violation of the ROC
because singularly it is clearly hijacking this thread ...

Please adhere to the ROC and keep threads on topic.
Thank you.

Please be good enough to explain to me why my post is hijacking this thread but green is my favorite etc.'s post is not?  Are you letting this hosting position go to your head?
