The issue I had written about is not yet resolved, and had to be removed.

Hello Dreamweever2 and welcome to Beliefnet I'm in the next state to the East of you, and have had a similar experience. I injured my lower back at work, was employed by a self insured workers comp employer. I believe you need to understand that the doctors and lawyers that participate in this sell their opinions to the highest bidder, the question here is not what do you have so much as what could you have. It's not what did you do, but rather what could you have done. Reality and help are not part of this system. You are seen simply as a source of income, nothing more. I am sure you have heard of the Hippocratic Oath my experience is most of these so called doctors and lawyers have taken the hypocrite's oath. The sad truth is if you look at sport stars they get surgery rather quickly for their injuries, there is a valid reason for this because the longer you wait the less successful the outcome is likely to be.

As a quack I can tell you that your optimum choice is learning to live with the pain rather than in believing a "professional" will fix the pain. I believe you'll find more relief in having the issues with your home addressed than with more help from the so called professionals you are seeking this summer. Just my two cents as someone who has been down this road, had surgery, heart attack, neuropathy, amputations, divorce, depression, etc.

"Two of the worst were orthopaedic doctors who had mostly workers comp patients."

Oh, yeah!   I can relate to that.  Orthopods are often surly, snarly nassty SOB's.  Not quite sure why, maybe that's what happens to compassionate people when so many of their patients can't be helped very much?

I have a congenital spinal anomaly which is producing excess bone growth on L4, L5, and S1 and basically fusing them together.  That low down there isn't much effect on flexibility - but the growth is not smooth and also involves spinal stenosis (narrowing of the passages for the nerves and blood vessels).  The anomaly was asymptomatic until I was hit by a drunk driver while walking and tossed onto the road - back when I was 29 and in great physical condition without an excess ounce of weight.

Every now & then it starts hurting again (I'm 56 now) and then I go for PT and try to remember to do the exercises which do help - but trying to get through to the ortho folks has generally been almost impossible.  They seem to have tunnel vision about everything being connected to a WC claim.  Trust me, they weren't any nicer to this well-insured middle class stay-at-home Mom than they seem to have been to you!

All I can suggest to you is, first find a GP or internist you can work with, who can help advocate for you with the specialists.  It may also be useful to bring along someone else for moral support and to help you advocate for yourself.  I've been known to bring my husband because he's so obviously logical - yet he won't tolerate my concerns being dismissed as 'female hysteria'.

Unfortunately neither intelligence nor education confers 'people skills' upon anyone - myself included : ))  I hope that my words have been of some use to you:  I'd send you a ((((hug)))) but I know that's not always a good thing : ((

WOW-Dreamweever-hoped I spelled that right.Definetly take someone in with you to the DR.s' office, when you are being talked to-examed-IT Makes A Difference in how they treat you, also I am pretty sure that you are entitled to a 2nd opinion-ie-not a workmans comp DR. Some DR.s' see you by yourself and seem to think that they can treat you like an idiot.Look into the 2nd opinion and mot by asking workmans.I have been and am some of the places you are.Sometimes it seems as if they want to make it so hard that you just give up.Can not do that when things are so bad, huh. My prayers and energy will go out to you.Miasma

But it was and that is why I at least do not have that prob, much. Now you sound as if you have support, and brains so go with it,BUT waiting.Hard and court,I consider myself lucky? in that part of it-there is no denying mine. Also not workmans.Have you ever groaned-from pain and did not know it? I try so hard to hide how much AGONY I am in and then to have someone, like mother say I wish you would not groan,it is not loud, but don't do it.Well here I came to offer best wishes and I do will send some energy youe way 'horse makes it easy.I apoligize my complaints came out.I do believe we may have talked gardening before-foxglove.I am growing it because my house mate likes the way it looks. Also basil, rosemary and so on,excited to have a place to do these-3 rose soon 4 that is supposed to do well in partial shade 1 yr. gurentee-sp. Did not mean to write this much,I have a bunch of things started inside, think I will soon be able to put them out and go back to polishing my gems and such. Miasma

I forgot if the pain ever gets so bad that you do not eat,sleep,drink-last 2 most important I tried to drink water and sleep, noone knew I was not,I ended up in the hospital for about a week, hallucinations is what made someone take me,I knew it was not right but could only take tiny sips and no sleep,do not ever let it get that bad.Pride is a downfall.
