Godgil it is really great that you are studying with Jehovah's Witnesses you have and will continue to learn liberating unquestionable bible truths as:
No fiery hell, hell is just the mankinds common grave as when the man Jesus died, and was in tombed Acts 2:31 The King James Version reads :
"He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption."
Homosexuality is a sin. As stated Here in the Amplified bible:
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (Amplified Bible)
9Do you not know that the unrighteous and the wrongdoers will not inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived (misled): neither the impure and immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who participate in homosexuality,
10Nor cheats (swindlers and thieves), nor greedy graspers, nor drunkards, nor foulmouthed revilers and slanderers, nor extortioners and robbers will inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God.
11And such some of you were [once]. But you were washed clean (purified by a complete atonement for sin and made free from the guilt of sin), and you were consecrated (set apart, hallowed), and you were justified [pronounced righteous, by trusting] in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the [Holy] Spirit of our God.
On the issue of Morality Jehovah's witnesses do not claim to be perfect, but we do not make a practice, or choose a lifestyle, of any of the things God condemns as mentioned. It is true our leadership has an hierarchical approach to their interpretive precepts, and baptized Jehovah's Witnesses may face unpleasant consequences ( depending on who you are dealing with) for questioning the divine authority by which our Governing body has long professed, although they have never claimed divine inspiration, neither Apostolic succession, nor the powers of the holy spirit as the 1st century congregation. They humbly admit they are ordinary imperfect men, who are zealous bible scholars in their own right.
Our governing body's methods for determining the events of 1914, such as Christ invisible presence as we are taught, and the number 144,000 we are taught will go to heaven. Which only Jehovah's witnesses are a part of. Should be fully understood, and explained to your satisfaction as these core doctrines are vital to the organization which your baptism and dedication will symbolize that you do understand and accept fully without question more or less.
You will then be part of a like minded community, albeit imperfect, but generally good associates and serious students of the bible.
Hope this helps!
WTS Bible Dictionary Insight-2 p. 1132 Truth
"Being “the spirit of the truth,” God’s holy spirit could never be the source of error but would protect Christ’s followers from doctrinal falsehoods. (Compare 1Jo 2:27; 4:1-6.)...) Watchtower 1987 11/1 p. 29 Religion’s Tidal Wave—The Final Reckoning Examine the religious institution to which you belong. Does what it stands for agree with the Bible in every way? If not, then your organization is part of “Babylon the Great,” or the world empire of false religion. Follow the command found at Revelation 18:4, which is: “Get out of her, my people, . . . if you do not want to receive part of her plagues. |

I posted this over on the mulifaith board, but am reposting here...:0) Godgirl, Please don't listen to what non-jws say about Jehovah's Witnesses. There is so much misinformation and exaggerated information on the web about Jehovah's Witnesses that it is unimaginable. I made the decision to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses a few years ago after many years of study and it is the greatest decision that I have ever made in my life. I can't imagine not being one of JW. When I was studying, I read info on the web about the religion and it scared me for a little bit...but as I would study with them, I would see one by one that the things I read weren't exactly correct. Even if one detail was correct, overall it either wasn't presented honestly or fully by non-jw. My greatest piece of advice is to study with Jehovah's Witnesses and see for yourself. By seeing for yourself, you will be able to discern what is true and what is not. Also, make sure of everything that you are learning is what the Bible says, and this will give you confidence that what you are learning is correct. Also, pray about it. Our loving Creator will not ignore that prayer! As for what a poster made comment to above (on the multifaith board), one reason NOT to stay in a religion simply because it is 'less trouble' is because we should want to know that the worship that we are part of is Truth. If it is not Truth, then our worship is futile to God (Jehovah). As for being considered a 'cult', this is coming mainly from ones who have no idea what the truths are about Jehovah's Witnesses. Also, I hold that Jesus surely was considered a 'cult' in his day and yet he was the one holding the Truth! The road we must follow is the road through the narrow gate where the "few" people are going..not the masses. Matthew 7:13,14-"Go in through the narrow gate; because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it; whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it." I will repost this over on the Jehovah's Witness faith board as well where I viewed your invite to come here. Nice "Speaking with you"...:0) Warmly, julianna |
