kasalina, there is a passage in the Old Testament in which the Lord says that while a priest is serving he is not to mark his skin or pierce his body. A few years back, the prophet declared that nobody should receive tattoos and that women should not get anymore than one set of earings.
Since you got these tattoos before you knew about the church, you cannot be charged with knowingly violating anything, so don't worry about it - you're fine. I do not know about BYU though. They might have a rule excepting people that got tattooed before joining the church. I would call them and ask - just let them know that you got it before you knew about this LDS standard. |

Do what makes you feel most comfortable.
Try to be something you're not in order to please his family now and you're headed down a very dangerous path. |

"Do what makes you feel most comfortable."
This is NOT what the Lord would say. "Go ahead and sin if you're comfortable with it, and that is all you know." NOT. "Try to be something you're not in order to please his family now.." is a little better advice, but in this case definitely is not dangerous. Trying to change for the Lord is not dangerous at all. It is what he asks of all sinners. |

A lot of young people do things out of peer pressure. That is human nature, but when we make decisions without the benefit of experience, we can regret our decisions. A tattoo is a decision that is very difficult and expensive to reverse.

Kass, tattoos are extreme body modifications with no medical reason; therefore, they are frowned upon. HOWEVER, since you got yours before ever looking into the Church, I don't see that as a problem; but if you do, dermatologists can now reverse tattoos. |
