Anytime I see something like this I feel I have to say something. This is untrue. A full reading of the Surahs you are most likely referring to are actually forbidding muslims to make friends with people who the muslims were at war with. 

I understand the confusion because the terms the Jewish, Christians, the hypocrites and the unbelievers are named in these instances. Reading these portions without acknowledgement of the surrounding situation allows these misunderstandings.

And in all cases of these references any cease in hostilities or request for a treaty by the offending side the Qu'ran states that the muslims must accept and return to peace.
