I was having a hard time falling asleep last night, so I sat up and started re-reading some parts in my Satanic Bible. A connection occured to me, so I looked it up, and discovered an amusing coincidence (or was it?)
The Society for Creative Anachronism, or SCA, is a medieval recreation group that I've played with off and on for about seven years now. What can I say? They let me hit people as hard as I could with big sticks, and didn't shrink from hitting me back just because I was a teenage girl. Plus the clothes are more fun and food is interesting. The intro from Magus Peter H. Gilmore in the beginning of my copy of the Satanic Bible goes over the history of the church and of Anton LaVey... As we all know or could easily look up, Anton LaVey founded the Church of Satan on April 30, 1966. As near as I could tell, though it wasn't completely specific, this happened in San Francisco. He started a new calendar, naming that year as year I, Anno Satanas, or A.S. The next day, on May 1, 1966, in Berkeley, only a few miles away, a bunch of people gathered in a backyard and played at a medieval tournament, founding the SCA. They also started a calendar, calling that day the first day of year I, Anno Societatis, or A.S. So, by both reaconings, this year is A.S. XLIII. The calendars only differ by a single day, April 30, where the Satanic calendar counts forward to the next year and the SCA calendar remains behind, but by May 1 they are in agreement again. Am I the only one who finds this amusing or strange? ~Stalker |

If you do a google search on "A.S. XLIII" the first site is from the Church of Satan, and the several below it are SCA pages.

And the years match that of the Super Bowl! I can feel my conspiracy theory growing...
Except it would probably be too much of a stretch to say A.S. for "Anno Super Bowl." Or would it? ~Stalker |
