Lately, I have been experiencing a problem in my breath meditation. While focusing on the breath I can settle my mind into quite a deep state, but at some point, my breath becomes so shallow that it actually stops. It causes a slight catching in my chest and I have to consciously breath a little harder to get it going again.
Any one else experience this? What should I do? |

Proper meditation is perfectly safe.
If you are experiencing some problems with breathing...first, go to a pulmonary doctor and see if there is some problem with your health. In the meantime, stop meditating. If nothing is wrong with your physical health, then you must be meditating incorrectly. I would suggest you see a spiritual teacher and have them observe you to find out what you are doing that is incorrect. I would not re-start any breathing practice, until what is going on is discovered. You can always practice "just sitting." It involved no technique whatsoever and one just breaths as one does normally. here is a list of dharma centers: Zen Centers Guide http://www.dharmanet.org/infowebZen.htm |

a good morning meditation, from the "loving kindness" tradition of Buddhism. May All Beings Be Happy May All Beings Be Health May All Beings Be Free From Suffering May All Beings Be Liberated One of the biggest obstacles we have towards proper meditation is both anger and resentment. By offering our love for everyone (which, of course, includes those with whom we have had conflicts), we help to overcome our feelings of resentment and thus clear the road for our day and meditation. Clearing the road emotionally, as well as karmically... - gassho |

Sleep Meditation Now that You Tube has a full audio book of the Dhammapada, putting that on, as a way into sleep is a nice way to direct the mind toward spirituality as we go to sleep. Can help with better dreams, combatting insomnia, as well as a nice meditation in and of itself: |
