I seem to be periodically finding science news items that relate to Buddhism in one way or another, so I'm starting a thread for them.
First up, yet another study of the effects of meditation on the brain. :) Compassion Meditation Changes The Brain On the web page, to the left of the article, there's a column of links to other articles about meditation research. |

I am anticipating more of these science links. This last one on Compassion confirms my experience with the brahma viharas in that I sensed a shift over time.
I believe I can benefit from taking a look at brain-consciousness connection from the outside and I have retired from a medical background so that helps. Thank you for the links. |

This "news" item is seven years old, but I though it was interesting evidence of Buddhist/Brahminical conflict early in the history of Buddhism.

An article in Scientific American from last October:
link -> Searching for God in the Brain The title is misleading (as most science headlines are). The article gives a layman's overview of neurological research on specific religious experiences associated with meditation. During the course of the research described, God was neither sought, nor found. :) |

Archeologists found a head from a statue of the Buddha in Bamiyan, Afganistan. (Bamiyan is the town near the gigantic Buddha statues that were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001.)
