What ethical rules or principles guide you in your practice of shamanism?  Thanks, Dennis

I don’t do work on behalf of those who do not ask directly for it. What about you?

Hi!  I mentioned  in another post that I'm a member of an subscribe to the following:

Society of Shamanic Practitioners
PRINCIPLES OF INTEGRITY

To help individual practitioners be effective in service and healing in the world as they help shift global consciousness, and for the protection of those we serve, the Society of Shamanic Practitioners believes the following pledges represent the core principles of integrity in this pursuit:

I pledge to work in sacred alliance with compassionate spirits, and to be informed and guided by that Source, and not my own ego, in offering service to others.
I pledge to respect the wholeness inherent in every person or being or group or circumstance that comes for healing and to honor whatever form its pain is presented to me.
I pledge to be mindful of speech, thought, and action and its impact on building relationships both in the present and through time into future and past.
I pledge to be respectful of others, even in their differences.
I pledge to work with compassion and consent.
I pledge to do no harm and to avoid any exploitation or misconduct in my work with clients.
I pledge to maintain clients' confidentiality.
I pledge to be honest with clients and other practitioners, and to be truthful in the manner in which I present myself in public relations and advertising.
I pledge to offer fair and appropriate fees.
I pledge to keep my own life in balance, to the best of my ability, in service to others.

Honestly, I have the most difficult time with the "be respectful of others, even in their differences" when they are being disrespectful or just plain ignorant!  Dennis

Seems a reasonable set of guide lines.

Respecting differences not so much a problem, for me. We all are limited to seeing with the eyes that we are given. Yet respect is also a two way street. Those who "demand" respect the most, likely deserve it the least. While it is possible to respect the differences between us. That same respect does not require that one allow them self to be treated with anything less then respect.

Ignorance can only be helped if both parties are willing to learn and to share.

Those ethics are very specific to a health care type of practioner and are basically standard for anyone in the field of health care.  Some are even legal requirements.
That is only a small subset of shamanism.
The rest depend on the ethics of the culture or religion of the practioner.
As far as respecting differences is concerned - the first time through you get respect.  After that if you show your an asshole you don't get none.

Hi
Haven't seen you in a while either!
Life has been "interesting" - really teaching me to value my kick-ass warrior side!

However massive amounts of snow meant I had some time to cruise by.

Ledna--Hi.

You say--

"That is only a small subset of shamanism.

Thanks for bringing this up.

There ARE cultural differences even if not everyone is aware of them.

This is also true for Family Shamanism.
