I'm not at all sure that maltheism is at odds with atheism. The God of maltheism is not (necessarily) a supreme being or object of worship that would define a god in the atheistic sense, the maltheist God is simply a malevolent being that people mistake for a supreme being or object of worship. Unless your brand of atheism won't even admit of spirits at all, I guess I don't see the issue.
