Meg Barnhouse indeed represents the best of Unitarian Universalism.

Her article also offers another piece of information about this incident.  It makes if clearer that he was familiar with this church, knew it as a bastion of liberals and targeted them for that reason.

When I lived in Georgia the local UU church was often the most visable gathering of liberals around.  In many places one could go to a meeting of the local Democratic Party and the people wouldn’t be half as liberal as the local UU’s.  For someone who was deranged and out to get liberals, UU’s made a big target.
