There is a new page for Unitarian Universalists interested in naturalistic (aka scientific) pantheism and the World Pantheist Movement which represents naturalistic pantheists. Please visit:

I am UU and find myself somewhere between Pantheism and Panentheism. It turns out that several UUs I know who on the surface seem to be quite different - Humanist, Christian, Pagan,  actually have scientific Pantheism and or Pantheism or Panentheism in common.

The only problem with a Mac is the Safari browser. It is a bit amateurish for Apple to ask users to report instances when Safari 'cannot connect' in the hopes of solving Safari's shortcomings one website at a time.

I solved that one by setting up Firefox as my home page and eliminating any dependence on Safari.

You did the right thing.

bluehorserunning:

I have a Mac, and Safari was very slow and had other problems.   Firefox is fine.   Convert!   My home page is Yahoo, but my browser is Firefox.  My computer runs on cable.

I don't think UU is any sort of pantheism.    UU is kind of a liberal Christianity with churches and ministers and congregations.  Pantheism has nothing to do with Christianity or any other organized religion.  It is  a totally separate path.

I don't think Pantheism and Panentheism have very much in common at all.  Pantheism sees God and the Universe as one.   Panentheism sees God as outside the Universe having created it.   I don't see the similarity.  If you have a being outside the Universe creating it, you might as well call that being God, and if so, how can you not accept so many of the stories written about him?   If he created the universe, than it goes to follow God created you and me, and so forth ... into a religion with all it's myths and stories of saviors and other mystical beings, etc.. good and bad.    Pretty soon if you have a creater God, s/he must be a ruler, some kind of king, and kings have enemies, bad guys, good guys, and so it goes....

I don't see pantheism as a religion, but as a philosophy.

I am a panentheist UU and I don't believe in a "creator God".

Yes, pantheism sees God and the Universe as one, as you say.

Panentheism simply means a belief that "god" is both immanent (present among/within us) and at the same time transcendent (greater than the sum of the parts of the universe). This doesn't suggest any causal relationship (creator-->created).

I feel more drawn to panentheism because it just makes sense to me. Let me illustrate:

In my mind, pantheism is like saying "I am the same as my body".
In my mind, panentheism is like saying "Yes, I am my body; but I am also my mind, my emotions, my experience, my spirit, my beliefs, etc."

Pantheism seems (to me) to be a little too cut and dry, and leaves out....something. Sure, there is plenty of room for awe and wonder; but I feel like there has to be more.

I have many UU friends who are pantheists, so maybe this would be a good topic of discussion for us to have. Maybe I'm misunderstanding things, but this is where I am now.

Thanks for listening!

I can agree that Pantheism isn't a religion as such. It's a view of how the Divine works/exists/functions. One can be Pantheistic within any number of defined faiths I think.  Back when I was still Catholic, I was moving towards a Pantheistic understanding of that Deity.

I've moved on since. ;)
