The Apostle John and the three Nephites desired and were granted to remain on the earth as immortals. Only the Savior could grant them this power over death. Even during the apostasy, the priesthood was active through John and the Nephites, but it was not conferred on any mortal men until 1829 when John the Baptist, acting under the priesthood authority of the Apostles Peter, James and John, conferred the Aaronic Priesthood on Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery on the banks of the Susquehanna River. Was the priesthood really taken from the earth? Not entirely. Heavenly Father gives his children the amount of truth and power that they are capable of receiving at a given time. During the apostasy, the general population was not capable of receiving the fulness of the priesthood and the organization of the Church. It was not until the right time when the world was capable of receiving the true Church, was it restored to the earth. In the future, further revelations and powers will be bestowed on the Saints as they become capable of receiving them. The priesthood has always been available and active. It is the hearts of men and women that change in respect to receiving or rejecting it.

...it was not conferred on any mortal men until 1829

What was the date when the last worthy priesthood holder died without ordaining a successor to the priesthood?
