While it is true that Darth Bane instituted the "rule of two", before his proclamation the SIth were in much larger numbers. SIne the RoT there have been numerous instances where more than two Sith at any one time. Perhaps it should be pointed out that the RoT only applies to Sith Lords, and not the Sith in general?

Thank you, that's it.  The Jedi learn and practice knowledge and use of the Force. The Sith do as well, but for reasons antithetical to Jedi.  The movies take something away from the discussion, since the Sith appear to be similar except in alignment, when in practice almost everything is different.  Jedi are disciplined, the Sith more chaotic.   Jedi seek community but can be solitary when necessary or in training, while the Sith are solitary by nature and very territorial.  Jedi are about growth and development and protection, the Sith are about destruction and conquest and death.
