Welcome to the Ahmadiyya Movement community! Please introduce yourself in this thread.
The Ahmadi or Ahmadiyya Movement, a messianic sect of Islam, was established in 1889 by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) who began receiving divine revelations in 1876 in India. Centered in Pakistan, the movement seeks to rejuvenate Islamic moral and spiritual values. Please feel free to start new discussions by creating a new thread. Please help the others to understand the difference between him and his son and the consequences. Your post indicates you speak of the son ... is that your intent?
You know what I mean. The one who built the organization and translated the Qu'ran was an honorable man. It was his son that claimed to be a divine messenger. Whom do you represent? Who is Maulana Muhammad Ali? |

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian claimed to be the second coming of the Massiah and claimed to be a non-law bearing Prophet, that was prophecied by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him). After his demise in 1908 a caliph was selected to lead the members of the Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam. The first caliph was Maulana Noor-ud-din, and after his demise around 2000 selected Mirza Bashir-ud-din Mahmud Ahmad as the second caliph and after him followed 3 more. The Ahmadiyya Movement is persecuted in Pakistan, but the followers are very active and live all over the world now.
Maulana Muhammad Ali accepted the claims of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad in his lifetime, yet disagreed after his demise and after the demise of the first caliph sought to be caliph himself, and when he saw no way of him becoming the next caliph, he made his own organization, which is today known as the Lahore Movement or Ahmadiyya Anjuman Ishaat Lahore. |

Upon learning of Maulana Muhammad Ali, I sought out much of his literature, and have to say, it is through his great work, that I have gained most of my knowledge of the peaceful, rational, liberating, and inspiring Islam in these past ten years. Maulana Muhammad Ali was not tainted by worldly motives.

Hello, is there a book about this movement? Am I to understand this is a more modern take on Islam, meant to be lived in today's world among pluralistic societies?
Thank you, Agnosticspirit

There a number of books about this movement and books that speak about the key differences of interpretation from other sections in Islam.
Among the reasons the founder of the Ahmadiyya Movement named it was such was in his own words "so that everyone hearing this name should realize that this party [Ahmadiyya] has come into being for the spread of peace and security and that it would have nothing to do with war and fighting." It was his strong desire to dissociate Islam altogether from war and violence, urging Muslims of the world to resolve their conflicts peacefully. He warned, otherwise, they would always face defeat and humiliation due to their wrong concept of jihad. "I wrote books in Arabic and Persian in order to spread this teaching of the prohibition of jihad to other countries, thousands of rupees being spent on their printing and publication. All those books were published in Arabia, the lands of Syria, Turkey, Egypt, Baghdad, and Afghanistan. I believe some day these will show their effect" (Kitab al-Bariyya pp. 7-8). As far as living in pluralistic societies, I quote Dr. Zahid Aziz: "Another consequence of his teaching in this respect is that Muslims can do their duty, as citizens, of obeying the secular authorities and at the same time follow their religious obligations of moral and spiritual progress, rendering unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and rendering unto God that which is God's -- a distinction which it is generally thought impossible for a Muslim to make. There are today Muslim minorities in every Western country, and also in other non-Muslim countries, who have to do exactly that. However, Hazrat Mirza did not believe that Muslims should do this out of opportunism, pragmatism or hypocrisy, but sincerely out of conviction. His approach was entirely opposed to the notion of rebelling against the authorities to establish a so-called Islamic government. In this age of argument and reasoning, he wanted Muslims to prove the truth of their religion and thereby bring their rulers within its fold." http://www.muslim.org/intro/survey.htm] The Ahmadiyya Movement is an intellectual, progressive, and spiritual movement that seeks to conquer the hearts of men and women, not through violence and aggression, but through reason and intellect, and beautiful deed and action. There are two missionary religions in the world today: Christianity and Islam. Christians had not only been perpetuating a false image of Islam and the Holy Prophet Muhammad for ages, attacking it to its very core, but also misrpresented their own Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, by having raised his dignity and honor from a humble Prophet of God to God himself. It was out of Divine Wisdom that when the world would become more united by way of technology and communication that a Messiah should be raised in the name of Jesus that would resemble the first Messiah spiritually, and one that would not only clear the name of the Holy Prophet by showing the beautiful face of Islam to the Western world, while guiding Muslims aright whom themselves were and to this day are still perpetuating a false image of Islam through their awful misdeeds and crimes (hence be raised as Mahdi) but also, in fact, clear the name of the first Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary (hence be raised as the Promised Messiah), in whose name the Church and Christian missionaries have been greatly deceiving the masses. In this age, it was Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, India that was raised as both the Mahdi and Messiah, one whom was inspired by God with extraordinary signs, visions and prophecies of the future (some of which were fulfilled in his own lifetime or shortly after, to include World War I & WWII), fulfilling the prophecies of the second coming of Jesus, that would inspire a small group of Muslims, while arming them with the most powerful arguments, to take the true peaceful, rational, loving message of Islam to the Western world and thereby have them come to taste of the Divine light from on High. His followers today are known as Muslims of the Ahmadiyya party. |
