Welcome to the general Buddhist discussion forum. This is the first post, so it's both a welcome and...um...a test post. :)
Hi. This is my first post to Beliefnet forum of any kind. I would say this is a test-post!
Ha! I look forward to navigating my way around.  Rayleen, new member

Hello. Anyone here practice Shikantaza Zen meditation? I'm a "sort-of" Buddhist. Not hot on labels but basically into Zen, Theravada, Vedanta, the teachings of J Krishnamurti and contemporary teachers such as Tony Parsons. Perhaps there should be another group called "Mongrel Zen" for people with varied mixes :-)

Glad to have you join us.

Just a quick note; Vedanta and J Krishnamurti aren't Buddhist and disagree (disagreed) with some Buddhist teachings. Zen is a form of Buddhism that emphasizes meditation (Zen = meditation). My sister buys Zen hand soap from Trader Joe's, so I guess "Zen" gets attached to all sorts of irrelevant things, but be aware that Zen is a form of Buddhism and not an amorphous, ill-defined seperate religion.

Having said that, what little I know about Vedanta makes it seem like a worthy subject for study, and Krishnamurti was an interesting thinker, although a poor role model. I don't know anything about Tony Parsons, other than that he was once a guitarist for Iron Maiden. But that's probably some other Tony Parsons. ;)

I don't currently practice shikentaza, although I have in the past. It's a good practice.

I hope we can contribute to your search, regardless of what direction it may take.
