Why do you call me good, no one is good except God," Matt 7:11-12

Does this not insinuate Jesus claiming himself as human instead of God?

Luke 18:
18 And a ruler asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"  19 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone."

It's an unambiguous statement that Jesus is not God.

A great many other such statements are attributed to Jesus in the NT.  Here are a few.

Mark 2:
10 "But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins"

Matthew 24:
36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only."

John 5
19 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing"

John 5
30 "I can do nothing on my own authority; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me."

John 6
38 "For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me"

John 8
42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded and came forth from God; I came not of my own accord, but he sent me."

John 10
25 Jesus answered them, "[...] 29 My Father [...] is greater than all".

John 14
10 "The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works."

John 17
3  "And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent."

As you can see, the statements are incompatible with the Trinity.  The reason is that the Trinity wasn't invented until about 180 CE (by Theophilos of Antioch), long after the NT was written, and didn't take its developed form until the 4th century CE.

Lu 18:18  And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

read flatly

this could be read to say Only God is good

read rhetorically, Jesus is good, only God is good; therefore Jesus is God

Why not speak clearly unless one wants confusion that theologians will debate for centuries?

Buddha was also good. Does that mean he was God?

There are three sides to every story: your side, my side, and the truth.

God is just a personification of reality, of pure objectivity.

Ah, but the rhetorical part is what gets one in trouble.

It's saying that God is the main source of good. And anything which comes from God is apart of His goodness. Just like the sun, it's the main source of our light; But the rays that comes from the sun is apart of the light, but it's not the sun.

It's a valid a question.

They call him good; he asks them why they have decided that he is good.

Is it just an empty courtesy, or do they really think that he's good?

If they think he is good, what does that mean?

I like Eliascomes point: only God is good, and thus all goodness comes from God and is of God. That can also be interpreted as then implying that if Jesus is good then he too must be of God.
