ncronline.org/blogs/ncr-today/conservati... And such terrible timing - just when the push to canonize C & L's founder was going on. Sort of like the bad timing of the subito santo push to canonize JPII - how inconvenient to publicize that he protected Maciel and shut down the investigation into his sexual abuse of teenagers in his seminaries. Inconvenent truths never stopped the Vatican before, though. It certainly won't now. |

Wav Given the direction of "things church" and nowadays, what it means to be "church," this is little more than another bug on the windshield. |

Absolutely. Ignore it. Eventually scrape them all off and start collecting more. I mean, really, this is nothing compared to the various Vatican banking scandals, and compared to the pathetic reality that hundreds and hundreds of bishops and the Vatican protected thousands of priests who abused tens of thousands of young people. So the guy is a crook while leading his people in their daily pious devotions? What's new? This is Rome. This is the Vatican. Corruption and dishonesty and hypocrisy are de riguer - par for the course. Expected. As our departed-from-this-board friends often observed when the latest example of corrupt bishops protecting pedophiles hit the news- Yawn. Nothing matters to the "princes of the church" - especially not truth, especially not actually living the gospels. And nothing beyond "obedience" matters to their apologists too - the "faithful to the magisterium" - no matter what - Catholics who keep the machine running with their dollars and euros. It's amazing how many have drunk the kool-aid and go back for more. They will happily continue to play their assigned roles as "the simple faithful." Yes, I know that this guy and C&L are not "THE" church nor are they the "teaching authority" of the church. But, they are dear to the pope's heart, held up as an example of what being a "good" Catholic means. |

The church has been riddled with scandals since the beginning, yet the sheep come coming. |

This was the group redkim was involved with, right? I wonder how she's doing. I liked her posts, even though I disagreed with most of them. |
