Don't say "proof" to alcoholics.

Personally, I do agree with the commenters from the article that the methodology could use some work.  However, I find that analysis has strengthened my faith, not weakened it.  Sure, I've stopped believing in things that I now see to be shameless propaganda and political insertions, but my Christianity centers around general compassion, "judging a tree by its fruit", and honoring "the Truth, the Way, and the Life."  It bothers me that Christianity obsesses over Truth and then resorts to misleading and outright false statements in an effort to promote undeserved power.

JCarlin:  In my experience, limited to be sure I tend to associate with people that think, those who think about their religion and remain in it tend to be regarded as heritics by the heirarchy.

Indeed.  God knows I've been accused of being a worthless, evil, demon-spawn who lets Satan's serpent crawl all over poor innocent Christians.  :P

ctcss:  But if you were a "brain in a vat" or a character in a game of the Sims, they would seem equally as real (and even operate in a defined, repeatable way) and yet not be real.

However, the Sims ARE real, in the sense that they are not made up.  They consist of real bytes of data.  0's and 1's, but how is that different from atoms or A, C, G, T/U?

JCarlin:  Many religions for example teach that only a certain tribe or group is "chosen" and the rest of the planet is not worth thinking about.

Which is why I like Jesus' "the eye cannot say to the hand, 'I don't need you'" speech.  We MUST, for our long-term survival, appreciate our ecological niches and work to promote interdependence.

Sadly, I think it may be. But then, the vast majority of humanity probably doesn't give much deep thought to many topics in their lives. I forget where I read it, but a humorous article or comic brought out the fact that people probably can't name their congressman but somehow they know the name of the actress who played Mary Ann on Gilligan's Island.

Such is the state of our "civilization". (Sigh.)

The majority of the population is thinking about getting laid. That's why the population will continue to be a majority.

Lets correct that to: The majority of the Abrahamic male population is thinking about raping women.  It works for a while, and in fact has worked for a long while hence 7 billion and growing.  But it is significant that where women have control over their fecundity not only do men not get laid but population stabalizes at sustainable levels.  No surprise that the religious right is against women's rights, contraception and abortion.

I have been thinking about this lately with all that has been going on.

The religious right, don't believe in abortion, (to put it mildly) even in cases of rape and incest. Evil bastards. And many even if the mothers life is in danger. After all women are replaceable.

They don't want to allow any form of birth control. They say they want people to wait unit marriage, but after that does a women have a right to say no to her husband. If she does not want more children. I have not been able to get an answer from those on the right.

But I suspect the answer would be NO if they were being honest.

I truly believe the religious right, really do not consider women anything but incubators, and play toys not real complete full, human beings.

It is nothing but a power and control issue, and they use religion to force their agenda. I don't believe many actually believe half of what they say. But it does get them what they want. Control. Religion particularly the Abrahamic traditions are dangerous, especially to females.

A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side. Aristotle

Trust me. They believe it.  As soon as they lose control over women they don't get laid.  Or rather they have to negotiate and be nice to get laid.  Usually that means contraception after 1 or 3.  That is why the Abrahamic sexual dogma is preached so loudly.  They hope the women will agree.  I suspect it is a losing battle.

The human race is prolific because most babies are concived by rape?

You're making no sense, and used a humorous quip as an opportunity to take broad swipe at the Abrahamic Faiths.

Wow. Really?

What part of "No" don't you understand?

Coerced sex is rape, whether it is called an arranged marriage, or unwanted sex after marriage.  Just because God or Paul says submit, does not necessarily imply consent.  There are many women who enjoy doing their "duty" and enjoy their maternal role in the society.  If there weren't as you note the human race would be in dire straits.  But the Abrahamic dogma that this is the only acceptable role for women, especially as screamed by the religious political right is simply dangerous to most women and to society.

I do hope it is a losing battle though, Smile
