4th century writings by Eusebius of Caesarea maintains that Jews and Christians were heavily persecuted toward the end of Domitian's reign.[114][115] The Book of Revelation is thought to have been written during this period.[116]

He makes no exception at all for questioning that an authority exists in contradiction to their establishment by God. No get out clause, no ifs, ands or but.

Then you would be asserting that St. Paul intended his command to be followed down to the 20th part of one poor scruple.  Why should we assume that this is what St. Paul intended us to infer?

St. Paul only spoke of us eating once a week.  If we follow your logic, KW, then we would infer that St. Paul only meant for Christians to eat one meal a week.

If one believes that he had the authority to describe God's relations with humans, then his writing is clear: The authorities that exist have been established by God.  End of story.

You’re interpreting this text more slavishly than the most hardened of 1611KJV-only- Christians and that’s just silly.

You are the one arguing that your word of God is wrong. Paul's instructions about the authority of your god manifesting in political authority is without reservation.

His instruction to pay taxes to God's servants is without exception.

Every person should place themselves under the authority of the government. There isn’t any authority unless it comes from God, and the authorities that are there have been put in place by God.So anyone who opposes the authority is standing against what God has established. People who take this kind of stand will get punished. The authorities don’t frighten people who are doing the right thing. Rather, they frighten people who are doing wrong. Would you rather not be afraid of authority? Do what’s right, and you will receive its approval. It is God’s servant given for your benefit. But if you do what’s wrong, be afraid because it doesn’t have weapons to enforce the law for nothing. It is God’s servant put in place to carry out his punishment on those who do what is wrong. That is why it is necessary to place yourself under the government’s authority, not only to avoid God’s punishment but also for the sake of your conscience. You should also pay taxes for the same reason, because the authorities are God’s assistants, concerned with this very thing. So pay everyone what you owe them. Pay the taxes you owe, pay the duties you are charged, give respect to those you should respect, and honor those you should honor.

How can taxes paid to care for the poorest, the sickest, those down on their luck by God's servants be objected to?  Taxes are not theft, according to Paul. They are what you pay for the servants of God to carry out the duties he has authorized them to do.

Exactly right.  And this is how I know no one is worshipping the way the bible teaches it is all cherry picked and they follow what they want to. That would not matter if they were honest about it.

People essentially worship themselves and use the bible to back up their opinion.

The selfish and mean spirited use the bible to deny the needy food, shelter, education and all people including themselves, affordable healthcare.

Some just don't like helping people. Or at least they don't like helping people they don't like. They use the "government" as an excuse. The fact that it goes against their own religious basics does not matter, because if they search long enough they will find a bible passage that contradicts the other and supports their claim.

Not moral integrity at all. Much the same vein as a politician that changes his mind at every press conference thus believing in everything and nothing at the same time. It just furthers the agenda.

A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side. Aristotle

Yes the book of revelations is totally against Roman authority. (I'm suprised Paul's people let it into the canon) Nero is the antichrist.

Who is the imbecile that let Paul into the canon?

The book of revelation should be retitled "My trip through the mexican mushroom patch" by John of Patmos

The  DIVINELY sanctioned authority to rule is not unique to christianity nor within chrisitan scripture to the epistles attributed to Paul of Taurus.

I certainly don't hold to Paul's opinions on everything. This is the same Paul who suggested that women should be silent in church, that women should never teach men, that women are to have their heads covered, and that slavery is a-okay. Paul also believed that it is good for a man not to touch a woman and that everyone should be celibate as he was.

Paul, like us, was full of opinions. And he, just like us, could be dead wrong on certain things. One of the reasons that America was established was to get away from the theology of "divine right".
