Can you imagine the arrogance involved in having non-mormons make an extended series of posts purporting to define Mormonism? These same people are at it year in - year out always bad mouthing someone else's faith. Whether they come from some angry branch of Christianity or hold themselves to be atheists or exist somewhere in between, they are not the ones who should be seeking to define the meaning and scope of a faith. Can you imagine those instigators of a beer hall putsch trying to define Judaism? That is an apt across-the-board analogy for all of these Mormonism 101 threads.
Responsible counterpostions are welcome. I hope Ironhold can answer every one of them.

Moksha: "I hope Ironhold can answer every one of them" You're so outraged, why not do it yourself? |

I'm already a marked man. You see, I've had threats of physical violence against me. Including from at least one poster right here on MD. That's on top of the ministers and professional authors who have directly targeted me as a person. I actually take pride in the fact that an entire anti-Mormon ministry pivoted around to come after me as a person because the guy in charge couldn't deal with me on his own. Thus, the present SOP is for me to go in first, blitz the anti-Mormon gadfly of the day, and deal with the initial counter-offensive. This gives posters like Mok and WWA time to get their material in order and enter the fray, at which point they usually finish the poor schmuck's arguments off by dealing with any issues I've not already covered. It also makes me the primary target for retaliation, meaning that I'm the person the resident anti-Mormons will come after first should anyone decide to actually carry out their threats of violence. I'm a big dude in real life, I'm quiet as a ghost under normal circumstances (I have to keep my keys on a clip just so I don't scare people silly), and I have more knives than a slasher film, meaning that I'm in the best posistion to defend myself and those around me. Given the degree of anti-Mormon bigotry that's just beneath the surface of where I live, this is a very real possibility. |

"Wesley told the early Methodists to gain all they could and save all they could so that they could give all they could. It means that I consider my money to belong to God and I see myself as one of the hungry people who needs to get fed with God’s money. If I really have put all my trust in Jesus Christ as savior and Lord, then nothing I have is really my own anymore." |

Moksha, as always you are the voice of reason. Though you and I will likely always hold differing religious viewpoints, I have nothing but admiration for the way you share your views, and the respect you show to the views of others. FWIW I agree with you about the current crop of posts, and I miss the genuine debate that we seemed to once have had around here.

Threats of physical violence from a poster on an internet discussion board? Understand that I am opposed to violence actual or threatened because of one's beliefs. I am also opposed to violence because of one's race, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical status, education, aesthetics, or socio-economic status. But just how does that work? Does someone kick your ass in cyberspace? |

Under the law, a terroristic threat is still a terroristic threat. If anyone utters a threat, regardless of the medium in which it's first published, it is to be regarded as a real and legitimate threat. You see, there have actually been incidents in which arguments that started on the internet ended in real life when one party tracked the other party down and went after them. |

The Mormon Church comes into our homes practically every day and parades the lives of their minority members across our living rooms, and wants us to change our minds about what it means to be Mormon; and you think I am arrogant because I went to their website and responded to their media propaganda site on this debate forum??? Okay, guess you're entitled to your opinion. Noticed you had nothing to offer on any of my threads. ~ Theophilus |

If you're talking about the "I'm A Mormon" ad campaign, there's nothing stopping you from reaching for the remote. I myself don't even bother with commercial breaks anymore; if I take the time out of my schedule to watch any sort of show, I make up for it by reading during the commercials. |

I have a hard time sustaining outrage for longer than 5 minutes. I really do like all of you here and would have a hard time arguing against you on a continuing basis.
Iron, when you are feeling persecuted take a deep breath and think of French politics. Doesn't help put your cares and worries in perspective?
