I see many symbols in the ancient Buddhist artwork that are divination symbols.  I'd like to learn if there are actual taught methods of energy healing (can be hands on or remote) that are taught to devoted students.  Are there any wisdom teachings or allegories that would show a tradition of energy healing in the past?

I saw a Buddhist religious painting which I was told was the first thing seen by a boy born congenitally blind.

Then there is a technique used by Tibetan monks to keep themselves warm called the Yoga of the Psychic heat.  Not exactly healing energy, though.

Sex is the mysticism of materialism and the only possible religion in a materialistic society.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find that painting and a story.  If I can't find it, maybe you can help.

I am not very knowledgeable about them, but yes, there are a number of healing modalities of Buddhist origin.  Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice which many in the west have at least heard of.  The martial arts includes practices like Qigong, which are studied and mastered by Buddhists, like at the Shaolin Temple in China, among other traditions.  In Tibet, I know that an oracle or diviner was traditionally used by the Dalai Lama for consultations, perhaps leftover from Tibet's shamanic religion prior to Buddhism, though I am only vaguely familiar with this.  Tibet is also known for the mandala practice, which is sand art, to my knowledge used for meditation purposes, to teach about emptiness, and as a visual guide to "the between" (the state between death and rebirth).

Kartari, thanks.  I have heard of Reiki and experienced that once from a Reiki master.  Don't know what level he was but he was very good.  He did healing on three of us  in the same session.  That was a lot of work for him because since then I have become a remote healer and I know the difficulty.

That was the first experienced of energy going up my spine.  My body was moving very slowly side to side in an undulating manner and I just let it do that.  Was sitting in a chair at the time.  Asked him why my body was doing that and he said he wasn't sure, just that energy was rising.  At least he was honest!

You've reminded me of more than I thought I knew.  Here are some of the things I have learned along my studies, of the ancient symbols and numbers used in divination across cultures.

My father (native american ancestry) taught me about the Bardo when I was a little girl, but the way he taught it was native american.  I remember we were at the ocean one day and he asked me to count the waves.  He said, "When you see the largest wave crashing, that is the 7th wave.  Then start counting again from 1.  The 49th wave is the largest of the largest."  That was all he taught.  Perhaps he was teaching me that one thing and then when I was older he would teach me why.  That is a native american way.  Not a lot of talk, only teach at right time.  Of course, common sense.  He died when I was 12 and I'll never know what he would have taught if he had lived.

In Christianity there is that saying about forgiveness.  Not only must one forgive 7 times, but 7 x 7.

In ancient Judaism there is the teaching of 49 levels, then the 50th begins the spirit levels.

Are you speaking of the Dalai Lama of today?  I wonder why he asks a diviner or oracle for consultation.  He doesn't know how to get his own answers?  Although he is such a wise man, it doesn't surprise me because divination has almost been lost.  (that is mostly the fault of Christianity coming into those parts of the world).  That is sad.  Christians don't even now of their own divination roots.

The Mandala was originally a map of where the sentient beings, plants and atoms were located in the 24-hour cycle. Now it is art.

I hadn't tied all these modalities together, but thanks because you reminded me and I have a much firmer grasp.  I've studied may years trying to reconstruct the divination they used.

Thank you!

Christine,

You're welcome.  Energy techniques certainly provide interesting experiences, and I've always had an appreciation for Native American ways.  Yes, even the current Dalai Lama has consulted the oracle.  This Wikipedia article explains a bit about it.  It's not that the DL does not find his own answers, but it's a Tibetan tradition to hear the advice of the state oracle.

Sort of a kind of separation of (spiritual) powers?

Hi Kartari, the Nechung oracle looks like a very nice man.  We have 'oracles' (elders) too.

Could be.  Different people have different talents?
