Close to concept of Christian Nuns. Who do not get married at all (Married to God).

Well then, the Prostitution would be in keeping with "slave girl".
Such men must be permitted access to those poor innocent children. And someone is paid something, for the trespass upon their innocence.

Obviously there's nothing in Hinduism that makes this practice acceptable...

This practice is part of the jogini System. Therefore it is part of the Hindu religion. And that would make it a great deal different from the role of Nuns, who were originally derived from the ancient Egyptian polytheistic religion, wherein young women dedicated themselves to the service of Auset. the prostitution cults have been going on since before recorded history. I am sure most Hindus or Indians would not be happy about it, some traditions die hard.  Especially where there is money to be made.

Are you serious? Learning hinduism from the "skeptic's dictionary"?  Did you NOT notice that they conveniently could not provide a SINGLE QUOTE from a hindu text that approves of this "prostitution"?   And yet you have no problem stating as if it was a matter of fact that hinduism condones prostitution?

The Devadasi are spoken of in the Mahapuranas where they are consider as maidens who dance and sing for the deity, NOT HAVE SEX WITH MEN!!

In fact, sex between unmarried people is FORBIDDEN in hinduism, and sex just for lust is considered undivine.  It's quite clear in the Bhagavad Gita, which I actually think it's a good read.

Howdy

1. This is all Obama's fault

2. This is all the Liberal's fault

3. This is all God's fault

4. It's the Muslim's fault Wink

5. It is the fault of both poverty and men who have an obession with young girls

Now done the rather unorthodox practice I read the the article :

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/pr...

My choice would be number six.

Although being an Islamophobic kufur number five seems awfully tempting.  Wink

1. This is child prostitution.

2. India is a 3rd world country.

3. Most kids in 3rd world countries are often sold by their parents into slavery, prostitution, and other unimaginable horrors without a second thought.

4. Hinduism is against prostitution, as indulging in a prostitute is lust and lust is bad.

5. This has nothing to do with religion. Religion can't be blamed for this. Only the parents and the "dealers."

6. I've always thought a prostitute of God was a nun, because they marry Jesus. When you think about it, a convent is like a monochrome, stone-walled Jesus harem.

Well, in the US also men are permitted access to poor innocent children, since child prostitution is also prevalent in the US. I read somewhere some time ago that over 30% of the street-based prostitutes are less than 18. And I can't remember the ages but I remember being extremely surprised at the "start up" age... I think maybe it was around 11? It was disturbing. .

>>>>>> Ironically men in the US cannot see anything worng in their country and most Indians think it is OK. Because most of these "Devdasis" are from poor lower caste families. Therefore the upper caste "Brahmins" do not see any reasons to take care of it.

There are tons of women of all ages in the US who sells/exposes their bodies to make a living. Which is a shame for the most advanced country ( At least Fox viwers think that is the case) in the world for its citizens to degrade themselves for a living.

It is all well in India and A OK in the US.

Merope, I think you should put it back.  It's disgusting and anti-Hindu.
