I am a Unitarian Universalist and I think you Evangelicals are brainwashed into fear that the bible is 100% literally true. In Unitarian Universalism I believe that God loves all people uncondiotionally and won't send anybody to hell for eternity and the bible does have errors in it and I think the real Jesus isn't the Jesus of the New Testament but a Rabbi who taught love, Paul made up a lot of lies about Jesus and twisted his own version of Jesus and that's what I believe. I accept people of all religions with love and peace and as they are for God's sake if there is a God which I personally believe there is.-Nathan.

You are welcome to believe however you wish Nathan.
I am an Oneness Pentcostal..dnt know wether that falls under a Evangelical heading or not...

I really believe that is ones Faith is really abt thier walk with the Lord.I wasnt raised to believe the Bible as literal.i was reaised in a Catholic church by Catholic parents, with a Catholic family went to Private Catholic School and was taught a Religion, rather than a relationship,so I really didnt know the WOG,nor was I really encouraged to read it,so the Bible was jst an after thought of the Ritualistic Catholic Mass...

When I personally began to experience diffrent faiths,i started study and reading the WOG and basically went through many a trial and many experiences which led me to my Faith today.I didnt know the WOG to be literal either, until of course I needed a Saviour,a comforter ,a Father,a Restorer,a friend,a King,a healer,a provider,ect..

The Wog says that He is all these and more listed above, and the WOG also declares that it is forever settled in heaven and that the WOG does not come back void.....I call out to God and he is faithful and he answers my call,so imho,IF you want to label me brainwashed....then yes,I am by the WORD of GOD......I however call it Belief,Faith,Tried it and its been Proven....

until of course I needed???

Has it occurred to you that is your problem?;)

That ALL religion satisfies a NEED and nothing more. You believe because doing so makes you FELL good. Like your drugs did.

You have simply replaced one addiction with another. There is no truth in either one.

Its ALL in your head.
This is OZ? I want back to KS.

What was it? Click your heels together 3 times and say - what??

I believe it becomes tough to reconcile evil people in heaven with peace love and understanding.

The bible doesn't mince this truth up. The wages of sin are death. It's been going on since Adam and Eve.There isn't an eternal hell, but there is an end to the evil people who don't want to repent or be washed by the blood of the lamb JESUS CHRIST.

I believe the Universal concept of unconditional love forgets the meatier part of reality like justice and judgment. It would have the same evil in heaven as it is on earth.

Missing the Lords prayer his will be done on earth as it is in heaven leaves little wiggle room for ongoing sin.

I do believe the Bible is 100% literally true.  Not out of fear but out of love and respect for It's author. I have done a lot of searching on my own, both inside and outside of the Bible, to seek out my own understandings.  No one is 'brainwashed.'

God does love all people undonditionally and isn't sending people to hell.  People are rejecting His truth and are choosing not to spend an eternity with Him.  God gives us all multiple chances to figure it out but we still choose to ignore the truth.  It is convenient to not believe that Jesus is the Jesus of the NT to make your beliefs work.

If you really did accept people of all religions with love and peace, you'd accept me and my beliefs and not call me 'brainwashed.'

Long story why - but I believe this poster is a 'baby' born-again Christian who's working his way through all the other faith traditions making posts intended to discredit and dismay.

i think we all need to pray for Nate's soul....and yes, I DO mean that.  It's a very confused individual who thinks that offending Jews, UU's and whoever he's he going after next, is any way of serving GOD.

Whatever path to GOD this poor confused 'Nate' takes, I hope he does learn that his tactics here are shameful and a great disappointment to that very GOD he's seeking.

Edited to add: I should have posted that he's currently posing as a new Born-again Christian, posing as a UU - before that, he was posing as a gay Jew who became born-again Christian....  I suppose that school's out for summer, eh?

I was going to post something along the same line. Even though I am not an Evangelical Christian and I used to hold some pretty awful views of what Evangelicals are like, I've come to realize that 95% don't fit the stereotype that others have of them. Most are just passionate about their beliefs. It doesn't serve any purpose to call someone 'brainwashed' and only becomes a negative reflection on yourself.

Perhaps the original post was just poorly phrased.

I don't think I like the label "brainwashed" anymore.  As I've gotten older, I don't see it as solely some malicious power-monger duping his congregation, though I'm sure it happens.  I prefer, nowadays, to think of it as religious fervor.  I still have issues with what I see as "Even if it's not broke, we'll fix it" views, as well as the more hardcore among "them" being in denial about certain facts of life.  However, those facts don't really mean you can't be nice and charitable to others.
Knock and the door shall open.  It's not my fault if you don't like the decor.

Looking, I agree with you.  And I've got to add that I've never yet met a UU who could make a post like the OP.  There's quite a large UU congregation that my BIL belongs to and we go to services with them off and on:  I haven't heard the likes of that OP from anyone there 'in private'....it's so OOC for a UU.

If you go to the Jewish Discussion board, there's a thread titled "I'm a 27 year old...."  Read that, then come back and read the OP again.  I think it will become clearer what I was telling everyone....

Leah,

Hmmm. I see what you mean. Obviously this is a person who is trying to find their path. Unfortunately sometimes a person choses to poke fingers in other's eyes as part of that process. (I used to be a bit guilty of that myself.) By challenging others, it's a backwards way of challenging yourself. Eventually you realize that the 'others' aren't the problem.
