I take issue with the fact that African Religion is so implicit in terms of its philosophy. In my humble opinion, now that Africans apply philosophy and writting skill, it's time to follow in the footsteps of the Hindus etc. who articulated the fact that a) the "gods" are more like mental archetypes, and b) have become philosophically systematic to the point of having systems such as yoga that regiment Hindu philosphy to the point where anyone can subscribe. African religious traditions of today are still stuck in maintaining things as they were when folks were illiterate and living in small scale societies. It's time to innovate. To come together and think of new, dynamic, liberated, and streamlined ways of thinking about African originated constructs. Too much about Africa is about maintaining the past. That's why, IMHO, there are so many problems with tribalism and corruption there. It's time for Africans to think outside of the box while still maintaining their integrity as self determining people (ie not just adopting wholesale Islam and Christianity without thinking).
