I seem to be your problem at UU. Might I suggest the Presbyterians or similar. You won't find any atheists there, and they will be happy to tell you all you need to know about the afterlife, purpose in life, and values. They will also provide you will canned spirituality so you won't have to do any spiritual heavy lifting. Don't worry, you won't have to think about anything for yourself, or put up with people whose religions might cause you to think if you are choosing the right God. Thanks for your warning, I am sure all UU's will worry about it for at least a few seconds.

I both agree and disagree with you and the original thread.

On the one hand, I am going to start going to Unity Christian church next month, however Im too close to my UU church to drop out of it I will probably go to both Unity and UU.

Our UU church is a Pagan style church and it has grown a little in the past year.Things have changed a lot and it has become more Pagan and resembles more of a church of Wicca at times then a UU church. We now have aWitch UU student minister of Wicthcraft who will preach once a month at church and be available for the next school year till June.

It seems like more Pagans and witches are coming to us now and its becoming more and more exclusively Pagan and there are those of us complaining about it at church they had a big fight about it at board meeting the other day that we are mostly only havingg classes and lectures on Paganism excliusively. however that being said, im not sure how many members we have but we use to only have about 15 to 25 people come on Sundays now were seeing between 30 and 40 people show up, maybe because it appeals more to Pagans and the Pagan community is showing up more?

Anyways, i see the point however of the original thread, I dont see it as dieing no, however except for candles of prayer and concern( Pagan ritual of lighting candles and sending smoke up with our prayers to Gods and Godesses)we have very lttle to nothing when it comes to prayer praise and worship, meditation and praying over people, singles groups socializing and involvment.........its definitly lacking and Im starving for some spiritual enlightening prayerful worship services so I AM GOING TO START GOING TO UU, however as a Pagan my church is a good resourse for Heathenism and I love my UU friends so Im not willing to leave UU for it, Im going to both churches, it is true though I do hunger for the old prayerful praise and worship meditative Christian churches(except Im NOT CHRISTIAN)worship commnity,

but on the other hand as I said as a Pagan community we seem to be growing, read my threadon Unity church and exchristians on christian debate about it

You can't be a Conservative Republican and be accepted by the Unitarian Universalist community so you can't really believe what you want and be an accepted U.U.

I dont believe conservative Republicans are drawn to UU. On the other hand Id have to disagree, im not all the way liberal, Im a cross combination of conservative and liberal, were not all the same at UU. Im liberal on the issues affecting homosexuals and envvironmmentalism, id think youd just about HAVE to be at leaste liberal when it concerns Homosexuals if nothing else.

On the other hand, when it comes to abortion, war, the right to own guns, the military, im very conservative, I also tend to be a 3rd party person more then a democrat.

But I am very comfortable with UU. Aain I think the only mandatory thing youd have to go along with at UU is mainly on Homosexuals, thats about it though.

The real Jesus makes a UU look like a fundamentalist.

The same is true of the churches that UU's do not like.  In conservative churches dissent is discouraged and often thought of as the work of Satan.  In a UU church you're more likely to just get a traditional shunning.

Freedom is not just something we should give to those we like, agree with, or support.   In reality, it's not ours to give anyway.  Christ died so that the world could know the kind of freedom that we only dream about.  This is why I love Paul's letter to the Galatians.

razorleaf, I absolutely agree. They claim open-endedness but it's like a rounded square. (Airquotes) Free, but only to the extent where you are forced to search for truth. Also, as a returning SBNR, I find their restriction of the use of God language part of the above. Second, that (plus the fact that they have been editing Christian hymns and the words of the Bhagavad Gita, removing all of the spiritual references) for others who don't believe. IT'S ALL ABOUT PEOPLE PLEASING AND MAKING EVERYONE FEEL GOOD. That makes it fake and phony, so I left UU for good!!
