I feel that there are a considerable amount of advantages in living in a very secular society. One may believe or not believe in anything one likes.
I guess that Australia is pretty much a secular society. So is Japan. Most of Europe is very secular. Australia has had atheist prime ministers, Gough Whitlam, for instance, and Christians have continued to go about their lives unmolested. My neighbour is a follower of Islam and his wife and daughters cover their hair with scarves and seem to live a comfortable existence a godless place like Australia. Adeeb, my neighbour, knows that I am an atheist and it doesn't seem to bother him or his family. I can imagine that Adeeb's daughters or granddaughters will eventually abandon "the veil" as they see how our society works. I feel that secular societies are the way of the future. How do others feel? Steven |

Alas, I'm not sure every society is going to get there. Saudi Arabia doesn't look too promising.
