Welcome to B-net.  I worked in archaeology too back when I was in my 20s in the capacity of a mere grunt (digging, screening, some lab work cleaning artifacts, etc.) in the Delaware Valley (USA).  I was on University of Delaware's payroll for 4 years (?) and on Rutgers' for a half-year digging up Lenape and colonial American cultural material.
