So for about two weeks now I've been watching about 3 episodes of 21 Jump Street each night. They are on you tube. Everything is just as I remember it - the hair is big, the clothes are hideous and Johnny Depp is too beautiful to look at. As a result of this strange nocturnal behavior I've been thinking about what I miss about the 80's?
Of course, nothing looks the same as it did when I was in my late teens/early 20's. But what I remember is how it all felt.
Do you remember:
Molly Ringwald movies
Hip Hop when it was artistic expression and not a cash cow
Michael Jackson videos debuting in prime time
Cyndi Lauper's hair
Of course, all that stuff is cheesy now. But it all made me feel so good. Ah, youth.

I miss MTV when it still played videos, "The Golden Girls" when they were all still alive, great films from "Ordinary People" to "Blue Velvet, and living in a time before war, terrorism and a faltering economy. But most of all, I miss my youth!

What's not to miss? I loved the clothes, the curtain ring ear-rings, big hair, "Flock of Seagulls". Life was full of promise and we didn't worry about terrorists, gas prices, and "yuppies" were amusing. U2's Bono was beautiful and moody and, oh- I better stop now because I could go on forever!

Okay......LOL......I was going to say I hated the 80's and missed nothing about it......the declining memory of the old.....LOL. First I remembered that I loved MTV's Pop UP video. I miss the Pop up Video. Never cared for music videos, but I did enjoy Pop Up Video. There were some things I liked in the 80's, but I still have them so I don't miss them. I married my husband. I still have him. I met my best friend. I still see her daily and laugh and talk on the telephone. I was super blessed by the fact that my husband & best friend are from the same state and live just 30 miles apart. When I ran away from the criminal to safety here, she returned a few years later. One reason, I don't missed the 80's is I lost my long battle to see a violent criminal's evil behavior stopped by the judicial system. The other victions of the criminal were too afraid to testify against him. The statue of limitation had run out for me, but not for six other victims. It would have been hard for me because without the witness testimony I had little evidence to convict even if the statue of limitations had not run out for me. My witnesses were too terrified to testify either. I can't blame any of them. The criminal was a violent sadists. It was not hard for anyone to believe that he would kill them if they testified against him. How can I fault them when I waited so long to bring charges against him that the statue of limitations had run out on me. Not a happy thought, but it is probably why I think negatively about the 80's.

I miss Dynasty and Dallas- it wasn't so much the shows as the social event they created at University!
I DON'T miss big hair. It made me feel inferior. I have the straightest hair on the planet and I could NEVER get my hair big enough.

I miss the wonderful black cord jacket, white shirt with skinny black tie, black cord jeans and my white (freshly painted boots (sneakers !) which I used to wear to the local disco.
I also miss when a kiss was just a kiss and you were damned lucky to get one in the first place...unlike nowadays when a stranger can put their tongue down your throat just to say hello ....lol
Oh and how could I forget....BLONDIE (Debbie Harry !) WOW !

The clothes and the hair seemed better then than now. I also miss a lot of the music and the bands getting started then that are overly huge and even disbanded now. That's what I miss: the little things.
